Troop B Highlights
Trooper Hanson observed a vehicle parked on a secondary road while traveling south on RT 26 in Oxford after midnight. Knowing that there was a business near where the vehicle was parked, Trooper Hanson turned back and entered the secondary road to check the vehicle.
As the cruiser turned onto the roadway the vehicle’s headlights came on and the vehicle made a u-turn and sped away. Trooper Hanson caught up to the vehicle and stopped it as it turned onto a dead end. Upon approach, Trooper Hanson observed two large bags of returnables in the vehicle and the business had been a redemption center. The operator stated that “they” had stolen the bottles yet the operator was alone. Three suspects were back at the business in the process of committing a burglary. Trooper Tirado as well as Oxford PD responded to the business and the remaining three suspects were arrested. Cash, returnables, lottery tickets, liquor and tobacco valued at $1,100 was recovered. Three 18-year-old males were arrested and a 17-year-old was released to his parents.
Trooper Physic received a complaint about an erratic operator almost hitting two vehicles head-on. Trooper Physic had received information from dispatch that the vehicle had parked in front of a house. Trooper Physic made contact with the operator of that vehicle and had developed reasonable articulable suspicion the driver had been operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Trooper Physic attempted to put the driver through the battery of standardized field sobriety tests.
Due to the level of intoxication of the subject, only one of the tests could be completed. After a short altercation with Tpr Physic, the subject was taken to Cumberland County Jail and administered an intoxilyzer test. The results were 0.43% BrAC. (not a typo).
Trooper Physic arrested an individual for a copper theft in New Gloucester. The suspect confessed to the crime and was charged with criminal trespass, theft, and unsworn classification.
Tr. Fillebrown and Oxford SO responded to Main Street in Brownfield for a home invasion. A male was assaulted by two masked men, who fled after the victim grabbed a gun, which jammed. One of the subjects was identified by the victim and was arrested for aggravated criminal trespass and assault. Investigation is continuing on the case.
Trooper Wing responded to a domestic assault. Trooper Wing had previous encounters with the subjects during another domestic where both parties went to jail as mutual combatants. This time the male was arrested for domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing for head butting and chest bumping the female and making statements to her.
Tr. Chavez responded to a residence in Turner after the Leavitt Area High School assistant principal received a tip of another "fight club" match. The school administer reported that there were 20 kids watching the ongoing fight. Upon arrival Tr. Chavez observed two teenagers squared off with boxing gloves surrounded by a large group. Tr. Chavez separated the participants and ultimately charged them with unlawful prizefighting. Parents/guardians of the pair were notified.
Trooper Pappas arrested a Jay man for a probation revocation warrant following an investigation that started in Livermore.
Trooper Pappas arrested an Auburn man for operating after revocation following a traffic stop in Auburn.
Trooper Wing stopped a vehicle for speed and was given an expired insurance card. The operator claimed it was current however further investigation found the insurance had been cancelled. The operator was summonsed criminally for his insurance.
Trooper Pappas arrested an 18-year-old Turner man for possession of scheduled W drugs after finding (19) hydrocodone in his possession illegally.
