Pantry to close during relocation
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amPERU- The Servants Heart Food Pantry will close on February 20 and reopen on March 3, when they celebrate an open house at their new location inside the former Peru Elementary School. On February 18, prior to closing for relocation, there will be a large food distribution to help ease the burden of moving.

Irving receives $471K grant for energy efficiency project
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amREGION -- Efficiency Maine has awarded Irving Forest Products a $471,000 incentive to install a kiln moisture control system that will save the company nearly 15 percent of their annual energy expense - 3.2 million kilowatt hours a year -- or enough energy to power 530 homes a year.
Black Mountain granted $40K support
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amRUMFORD- Black Mountain of Maine was recently awarded a $40K grant from Bangor Savings Bank, of which, the first $10,000 was awarded for 2012 and they will receive $10,000 annually over each of the next three years.
“This was an unbelievable gift,” noted Jim Carter, general manager of Black Mountain of Maine. “It's an overwhelming time for us with just getting finished with the nationals. We haven't had time to let it sink in yet.”
Land favorable for mountain biking

Last week, Brian Alexander of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) in Augusta looked at the 83-acre town-owned parcel behind the River Valley Crossing Plaza on Rt. 2. Jim Rinaldo, economic developer for Rumford, said he hiked with Alexander up the Rumford Polar Bear snowmobile trail by the plaza to look at the land.

Body of missing Dixfield snowmobiler recovered
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amTURNER -- After a search that was started Saturday morning, the Maine Warden Service said they located a missing snowmobiler from Dixfield on Sunday, who left his residence to go snowmobiling on Friday.
The Maine Warden Service says the body of Joey Mann, 46 of the Mease Road was located by a volunteer searcher who
spotted what appeared to be a helmet in the Androscoggin River in Turner just below the Center Bridge Road Bridge.
Landowner settles forest practices violations
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amREGION -- The Maine Forest Service (MFS), under the Maine Department of Conservation, has entered into an agreement with T.R. Dillon Logging Inc. which resolves violations of the state’s forest practices law on land in the towns of Industry and Peru.
T.R. Dillon Logging Inc. of Madison has agreed to pay a $35,000 civil penalty for the violation.
Man dies in desperate attempt to save dogs
Feb 17, 2012 12:00 amCANTON - Sherwood Campbell, 64, lost his life on Feb. 7 while trying to save his dogs from his burning home in Canton.
Firefighters found Campbell's body Wednesday morning at the entrance to his second-floor bedroom.
Campbell's parents, who are in their 80s, were not at home at the time because his father, Sheldon, was in Maine Medical Center's intensive care unit in Portland for a heart condition and his mother, Norma, was there with him.
