  • Youth bands to perform at Skye

    SO. CARTHAGE -- New England Celtic Arts will present The Franklin County Fiddlers; The Abbott Hill Ramblers; and The Pineland Fiddlers at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Logo contest workshop

    RUMFORD -- The Beacon House Peer Center, 3 Canal St., is entering in a logo contest sponsored by the Consumer Council of Maine, with a grand prize being a $100 gift card from Reny's.

    The premise for the logo is showing how people who have a crisis and law enforcement can work together. The idea is a connection of support, with the theme "Bridging the gap -- a dialog between law enforcement personnel and individuals who experience mental distress."

  • Vietnam War veterans recognized in Rumford

  • Town, mill facing the unknown

    RUMFORD -- "We're faced with two unknowns," said Greg Buccina, chairman of the Board of Selectmen. "The unknowns of the Maine revenue sharing ($979,000 to Rumford) and where that will fall, and the concerns of the full operations of NewPage, particularly our Rumford mill."

    On March 13, on behalf of the mill, Tony Lyons, public policy director, testified before the Maine Legislature to oppose the Governor's proposal to skip a year of BETR tax reimbursement, which would cost the mill $1 million.

  • Next town budget will be impacted

    RUMFORD -- Selectman Jeff Sterling noted that the timing for this discussion with the mill is unfortunate as the Board of Selectmen have already gone through their process for the municipal budget, even through "there were hints that there might be a bit of trouble, but there was nothing concrete."

  • The First Easter

    Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved.

    She said, "They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!"

  • D.A.R.E. culmination ceremony Tuesday

    This logo will be on the fronts of t-shirts worn by fifth graders for Tuesday's culmination of D.A.R.E.
