Autumn Ride for Autism
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amREGION -- Oxford County United Bikers of Maine and L-A Harley Davidson will present the second annual Autumn Ride for Autism this Sunday, rain of shine.
Departure is from L-A Harley Davidson dealership in Lewiston at 9:30 a.m. for a ride to Mt. Blue State Park and then back to L-A Harley. Registration is from 8-9:30 a.m. Cost is $10 per person for the ride, $10 per person for the meal. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Everyone is welcome to join in; you don't need a motorcycle to participate.

Rumford to buy utility truck
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Surprised by what was accepted in trade for two pickups in disrepair, selectmen Thursday approved the purchase of a 2011 four-wheel drive half-ton pickup to be shared among three departments.
At their meeting Thursday, the board voted 3-1 (Greg Buccina was against, Brad Adley was absent) to purchase the vehicle was bidder O'Connor GMC at $12,196, which Town Manager Carlo Puiia said was about half price with the trade-in.
Rumford community listening session

Dipping sauce recipe capturing taste buds
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD CENTER -- Reviving a half-century old recipe from oblivion, Pete Morin's dipping sauce is already creating a stir within the River Valley and beyond.
In the middle of the afternoon, after Rt. 2 Diner had closed for the day, Morin could be found busily preparing four quarts of his homemade sauce pot in the kitchen of the business.
As he stirred the sauce, Morin said, "I'm using a five-gallon pot, with four gallons going; this is my biggest batch yet."
Learning leadership through Explorers
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- Katlin Hemingway and Brittany Gaudet joined Explorer Post 364 at the same time two years ago. It was appropriate that they attend the police academy together as well.
The four-day academy took place shortly after the girls got out for the summer break from Mountain Valley High School.
The girls noted that Explorers in the Mexico post who had previously gone to the academy were helpful in terms of what to look for there.
Brittany said, "They gave us a heads up on proper etiquette and what to say and stuff."

State cut affects school buses
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- Last year, school buses in RSU 10 logged more than half a million miles.
Kenny Robbins, director of Buildings, Grounds and Transportation, noted that fact when he hold members Western Maine Regional School Unit 10 board on Sept. 12 that the state has decided they will only reimburse the RSU for 100 percent on one school bus, instead of the two buses it has in the past.
