  • Authentic Bean Hole Bean supper to benefit fight against local hunger

    RUMFORD- The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and River Valley Healthy Community Coalition are sponsoring a traditional bean hole bean supper complete with beans cooked by the Rumford Firemen's Relief Association, which will include ham, coleslaw, bread and dessert on Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m. at the Rumford Information Center on Rt. 2.

    ANDOVER- On a sunny and cloudless blue sky in early August, laughter could be heard coming from the metal swing set in the back yard of Brock and Jane Clukey's home. As I ducked under the low-hanging limbs of the sweet-smelling crab apple trees and rounded the corner of the house, four-year-old Paisley shyly peered from behind her five-year-old sister Emma. They knew I was coming to ask some questions about their 13-year-old American Painted horse, Bleu, and to take some photos.

    PERU- Charlie Swan remembers growing up running through the halls of Peru Elementary School while his mother, Betty Swan, graded papers in her second grade classroom. With a family full of educators, Swan banters that he was genetically bound to be an educator.

  • Police watching for impaired motorists

    During this holiday weekend, drivers in Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield will notice more patrols and roadblocks as police seek to get impaired drivers off roads.

    It's all part of the nationwide High Visibility Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign, which continues through Labor Day.

    Rumford Police Chief Stacy Carter said, “The Rumford Police Department asks for voluntary compliance to keep the motoring public safe."

    The program supports the national Drunk Driving, Over The Limit, Under Arrest campaign.

  • Dixfield Historical Society Flower show winners 2011

    DIXFIELD- The historical society hosted the Al Larsen Festival of Flowers at the Open Market Day with a beautiful variety of cut and wild flower arrangements. Hydrangeas, phlox, pansies, golden glow, nicotina, cattails, lillies, coreopsis, wild berries and Queen Anne's Lace were just some of the beautiful flowers on display.

    MyKids gives parents a fast, easy, and secure way to add money to their children's school meal accounts (using a credit, debit card or a PayPal account), check their children's current school meal account balances, and monitor what items their children have been purchasing at school.

  • Free concert Saturday

    DIXFIELD -- A free public concert by a favorite local vocalist, Sammie Angel, will be presented from 4-6 p.m. this Saturday at the Gazebo on the Dixfield Village Green to celebrate Labor Day weekend.

    Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets, friends and relatives, and, if desired, a picnic lunch.

  • RSU #10 Bus Routes 2011-2012

    Bus Pickup Times

    During the first week of school, bus pick up times may vary up to fifteen (15) minutes. Students should be at their pick up points on time. If parents have questions regarding the bus schedules, please call the RSU #10 Transportation Office at 562-7254, ext. 8231.

    Activity Bus Runs

    RSU #10 provides activity buses for the transportation of students during non-school hours. These runs depart from the high schools and middle schools at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the fall and spring, and at approximately 6:00 p.m. in the winter.

  • Skateboard competition Sunday

    RUMFORD -- Eleven Circles will have a skateboard competition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sunday in the Hosmer Field Skateboard Park.

    Prior to the competition, Karen Mann will be here from 10-11 a.m. for a Zumba demonstration.

    Concessions will be on sale to raise money hot dogs, popcorn, snowcones, soda, water, etc. They also tentatively plan to have a live band on hand.

    The purpose of this event is to raise money for a new concrete park at the Rumford Skate Park.
