Free concert Saturday
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- A free public concert by a favorite local vocalist, Sammie Angel, will be presented from 4-6 p.m. this Saturday at the Gazebo on the Dixfield Village Green to celebrate Labor Day weekend.
Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets, friends and relatives, and, if desired, a picnic lunch.
The performance is sponsored by the Dixfield Economic Development Council. For more information, call Norine at 562-8816.
RSU #10 Bus Routes 2011-2012

During the first week of school, bus pick up times may vary up to fifteen (15) minutes. Students should be at their pick up points on time. If parents have questions regarding the bus schedules, please call the RSU #10 Transportation Office at 562-7254, ext. 8231.
Activity Bus Runs
RSU #10 provides activity buses for the transportation of students during non-school hours. These runs depart from the high schools and middle schools at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the fall and spring, and at approximately 6:00 p.m. in the winter.
Skateboard competition Sunday
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Eleven Circles will have a skateboard competition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sunday in the Hosmer Field Skateboard Park.
Prior to the competition, Karen Mann will be here from 10-11 a.m. for a Zumba demonstration.
Concessions will be on sale to raise money hot dogs, popcorn, snowcones, soda, water, etc. They also tentatively plan to have a live band on hand.
The purpose of this event is to raise money for a new concrete park at the Rumford Skate Park.
Rumford redevelopment meeting
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD — Economic Development coordinator Jim Rinaldo will lead a group discussion on the town's path forward to redevelop the community from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Rumford Falls Auditorium.
Attendees are advised to bring positive ideas and to leave negative attitudes and complaints at home.

RSU 10 considering student reps
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- The Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10 board began discussion on the possibility of appointing one or more high school students to seats on the school board.
At their meeting on Aug. 15, preliminary discussions included one student from each high school who would take turns attending board meetings, to appointing just one student to represent all three high schools.
Duties and restrictions for student reps on the board will need to be considered, with interested students submitting essays on why they would like to serve.
Voters say no to free money
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amPERU- At a heated special town meeting Monday night, 55 of the 93 citizens present voted to reject the $10,000 grant offered to the town to keep the former elementary school building open as a community center. They also failed to approve turning the building over to the Peru Rec Committee/Friends of Peru Elementary School.
Labor Day celebration at Skye Theatre

A pre-show jam will start at 6:15 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments.
George Keith's family has owned property in Carthage for many years. Each year they gather with friends from the Boston music scene on Labor Day weekend to enjoy Maine and music.
Dixfield Town Manager wins Rookie of the Year award

Wanted: Elvis look-a-likes
Sep 02, 2011 12:00 amWILTON -- Countryfolk Music Theatre, located on Route 2 in Wilton (East Dixfield section) is looking for Elvis look-a-likes for their one-day closing Country Sunday contest from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Each contestant will vie for a $20 prize and have two minutes to tell why he or she should win or sing an Elvis tune. This is the fifth year Countryfolk Music Theatre has closed with a famous entertainer look-a-like contest.
