School continues for some seniors
Jul 22, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- While the majority of RSU 10 seniors earned their high school diplomas in June, several others are still pursuing their degrees.
Members of the Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10 board on July 11 learned that fact in looking over a graduation summary submitted by principals of Mtn. Valley, Dirigo and Buckfield high schools.
Rinaldo is Rumford's Citizen of the Year
Jul 15, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Selectmen Thursday selected longtime economic development volunteer Jim Rinaldo as Rumford's Citizen of the Year.
Citizens submitted two names for the honor.
Richard Allen, president of the River Valley Growth Council, nominated Rinaldo. He wrote, "Jim has been our most active board member in the area of economic development. Jim has dedicated countless hours of his own time for the economic effort of Rumford and the River Valley region."
Evangeline book signing tomorrow
Jul 15, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD- Richard Mullins of Dixfield will be at Bartash tomorrow at 11 a.m. to sign copies of his novel, Evangeline. Mullins, who was born in Canada decided to write the book while he was doing some research of his wife’s Acadian ancestry.

Jul 15, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Paula Paladino, director of Homeless Services at Rumford Group Homes, Inc., presented the Oxford County Community Resource Manual in May to a newly formed grassroots group called the Community Resource Coalition.
The coalition has had six meetings over the winter and spring months with a goal of developing resource centers for people in the community who wish to learn about what
services and resources exist.

Jul 15, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Stephany Jacques, RN, OCN, has recently joined Oncology Nurses Patricia Perry, RN, OCN, and Tamara Breton, RN, OCN, in achieving certification in adult oncology nursing.
The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, a member of the American Board of Nursing Specialties, administers a written examination that nurses are eligible to sit for after two years of experience in oncology nursing.
With successful completion of the exam, nurses are certified and are granted permission to use the OCN credential. Certification must be renewed every three years.

The goal of this program is to plant evergreen trees and vegetation to enhance the appearance of the area, said Roger Arsenault of the Chisholm Ski Club and Black Mountain of Maine Operating Board.
