Town, mill facing the unknown
Apr 05, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- "We're faced with two unknowns," said Greg Buccina, chairman of the Board of Selectmen. "The unknowns of the Maine revenue sharing ($979,000 to Rumford) and where that will fall, and the concerns of the full operations of NewPage, particularly our Rumford mill."
On March 13, on behalf of the mill, Tony Lyons, public policy director, testified before the Maine Legislature to oppose the Governor's proposal to skip a year of BETR tax reimbursement, which would cost the mill $1 million.
Next town budget will be impacted
Apr 05, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Selectman Jeff Sterling noted that the timing for this discussion with the mill is unfortunate as the Board of Selectmen have already gone through their process for the municipal budget, even through "there were hints that there might be a bit of trouble, but there was nothing concrete."
The First Easter

She said, "They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!"

Andrea Beaton to play at Skye
Mar 29, 2013 12:00 amREGION -- New England Celtic Arts will present Cape Breton performer Andrea Beaton at St Lawrence Arts on Tuesday and Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in South Carthage on Wednesday, April 3.
Curtain is at 7 p.m. and there is a pre-show jam session 45 minutes prior to curtain at both venues. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam with the artists for a few minutes.
