Fiddle “Fire Cracker” to play at Skye
May 27, 2011 12:00 amREGION -- New England Celtic Arts will present PEI fiddle sensation Cynthia MacLeod with Jon Matthews at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in South Carthage on Wednesday and at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday.
Curtain is at 7 p.m. at Skye and 7:30 p.m. in Unity. There is a pre-show jam session one hour prior to curtain at all both venues. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam with the artists for a few minutes.
Prevent a tragedy

Colombini's to perform at 49 Franklin

Eleven Circles; All night prom party
May 20, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO- It may not have been the acceptable thing to do amongst teens 10, 20 or even 30 years ago, but more and more young adults of this generation are looking for safe and fun alternatives to the party hard and sleep all day stigma of prom night.
The newly formed Eleven Circles Teen Center that has taken up residence in the Mexico Recreation Center is trying to help change the belief that prom night is nothing without sneaking off to participate in underage drinking and other dangerous activities associated with the night.
East Andover Collapse
May 20, 2011 12:00 amA truck donated by NewPage of Rumford, that was meant to be revitalized as an all-rescue vehicle for the Andover Fireman's Association, is now sitting idle under thousands of pounds of debris after the roof collapsed under heavy snows this past winter.
Ken Dixon, president of the association, noted, “We are currently looking at funding and alternatives to get the roof repaired. We hope that the contractors we've spoken to will be available to get things fixed by the end of the summer.”
Worthley Pond getting public boat access

May Fair supports Hungry Kingdom Saturday
May 20, 2011 12:00 amANDOVER- More than a dozen vendors will be on hand Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Andover Congregational Church to help raise funds in support of the Hungry Kingdom food pantry.
"This project feeds all of Andover's elementary school chidren hot lunch, snack, milk and a breakfast," noted co-coordinator Sharon Hutchins. "To date we have raised over $21,000in the past three years for the Hungry Kingdom project, and have the confident expectation we will do it again this year."
Town to replace old plow truck
May 20, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- At their May 10 meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to begin the process of replacing their 1987 plow truck.
That process began by agreeing to seek bids for a cab and chassis. Town Manager John Madigan said that over the summer, the dump body, rigging, sander, etc. will be put onto the truck. All told, he said the cost will probably be around $130,000.
He said that in 2006, the town purchased a 2007 vehicle, with the cab and chassis costing $54,000.
Neighborly Senior Citizens

The meeting will start at 11 a.m. followed by a pot luck dinner and nickel beano. Doors will open at noon for anyone wishing to play nickel beano from noon until 2:30 p.m.
Students take pledge for a no phone zone
May 20, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- As part of the Keeping Students Safe program, police and school officials are asking students at Mountain Valley High School to sign a pledge to make their cars a no phone zome.
Many have signed the written document that states "I will do my part to put an end to distracted driving by pledging the safest driving behavior."
