  • Winterfest at Black this weekend

    RUMFORD- Join Black Mountain of Maine for tons of fun on Winterfest Weekend, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition to all thats listed in the schedule, we’ll have tons of raffles, games, prizes and ice fishing demos. Not a skier? Adventurers will be able to ride the lift or snowshoe to the top of the mountain for fantastic, panoramic views of the area.

    3 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m.- Music by Jewel and Donnie; wings, nachos and happy hour drink specials.

  • New addition to Cardiac Rehab Clinic

    RUMFORD- The Cardiac Rehab Clinic recently added another piece of equipment to their various machines that are used by their heart and pulmonary clients. The sit down elliptical is the perfect addition.

    “It’s a great piece of equipment to have on hand for our clients who are a little intimidated by the stand up machines,” stated Sharon Gates, Cardiac Nurse. “This piece should last us forever.”

  • Driver indicted for running over flagger

    MEXICO -- A Bingham man accused of running over a construction site flagger in November was indicted on Feb. 11 on three charges, including felony drunken-driving, according to Mexico Police Lt. Roy Hodsdon.

    Michael R. Tremblay, 55, was indicted by an Oxford County grand jury on charges of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon (his truck) (Class B), driving to endanger (Class C) and operating under the influence (Class C).

    Hodson noted that the last two charges are felonies because of the aggravated assault charge and because of the injuries sustained by the flagger.

    Roxbury Pond was scattered with traps during Saturday's Memorial Larry Mercier Ice Fishing Derby.   • In honor of Millicent

    MEXICO -- As a tribute to Millicent Mann, a plant with a plaque in her honor will be placed in the same Mexico Greens she helped to beautify for so many years.

    Mann, 97, passed away on Feb. 6, 2013. The Board of Selectmen held a moment of silence at their meeting on Feb. 12 in appreciation for her years of dedication to the community.

  • Texas Hold'em poker tournament on Saturday

    RUMFORD -- There will be a Texas Hold'em poker tournament this Saturday at the Rumford Eagle's Club.

    The doors will open at 8:30 a.m., with the game starting at 10 a.m. The fee for the buy in will be $30.

  • Aylward returns to Mexico police force

    MEXICO -- A familiar face is returning to the Mexico Police Department.

    Upon the recommendation of Police Chief Jim Theriault, the Board of Selectmen approved Josh Aylward to fill a vacancy in the department.

    Theriault said Aylward is returning after a year away from the department. He has yet to attend the police academy.

    In a related matter, the board also approved Theriault's recommendation of Derek MacDonald of Dixfield as a reserve police officer.
