Communications Training Conference
Mar 29, 2013 12:00 amLOVELL -- The Oxford County Regional Communications Center is presenting its third annual Communications Training Conference on Saturday, April 6 at the Lovell Fire Department.
The conference is open to all first responders (Fire, Law and EMS personnel) and dispatchers throughout Maine and New Hampshire. The keynote speaker is Chief John Oates of the East Hartford Fire Department in Connecticut, who will be addressing the group on response to violent incidents and how departments can prepare themselves to effectively deal with a potentially violent situation.
T-Acadie to perform at Skye

Curtain is at 7 p.m. There is a pre-show jam session 45 minutes prior to curtain. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam with the artists for a few minutes.Another opportunity to share?

At the selectmen's meeting here on March 12, Board Chairman Richie Philbrick, who works for Rumford Public Works, led the discussion regarding consideration for the purchase of a hot box with Rumford for using old reclaimed asphalt for patching potholes in the two towns.
Ice out contest update
Mar 22, 2013 12:00 amRIVER VALLEY -- Those considering entering for a chance to win a prize package in the seventh annual Rumford Falls Times' Ice Out Contest should be aware that it will still be some time before the ice goes out on Roxbury Pond.
Dennis Daniel, owner of Ellis Pond Variety, said that someone measure the middle of the lake on March 10 and there was still 24 inches of ice. As of Friday, there was still five shacks remaining on the ice, with no water showing on the edges of the lake.

River Valley coalition seeks data on drug use
Mar 22, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition is seeking data from area residents in order to get a grant to combat drug use.
RVHCC staff will conducting one-on-one interviews, Patty Duguay, coalition executive director, said in a news release. The interviewees are invited to share their thoughts, opinions and experiences to the extent that they feel comfortable, she said.
