In the last column I offered several tips to make fly fishing more enjoyable, mostly focusing on the proper attitude. In this column I’d like to give the reader a few more tips to assure an easier time on the water that also may lead to better fishing with a fly rod.

The first tip came to light as I put away my gear from a recent trip. I don’t like to leave my fishing gear strewn around the house, so I started to store my equipment in its proper place when I got to thinking about taking care of some of the problems I encountered during that day of fishing.

  • Good week for Cougar ball teams

DIXFIELD -- Take it one game at a time and that's exactly how the Dirigo baseball and softball teams have been approaching things and it has been paying off so far. Both teams won all three Mountain Valley Conference games last week.

The Cougars could received a dose of reality with four games scheduled this week, including a showdown between rivals. Dirigo plays Mountain Valley this afternoon in Rumford. Entering this week, both baseball and softball teams had records over .500, so there should be plenty of exciting action.

  • Sports Desk

There was a limited number of players who joined the Mountain Valley girls' tennis team, however, there was enough to fill the ladder. The Lady Falcons have been competitive, but have been hard-pressed to earn points against the stronger teams in the MVC.
