  • Kane to be inducted into NE Hall of Fame

    Former Dirigo basketball coach Gavin Kane will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on June 22.

  • Grand opening of Black and White Trail

    RUMFORD -- The Mahoosuc Land Trust will be celebrating the grand opening of the newly constructed Black and White Trail with a hike on Saturday.  
    A brief opening ceremony at 10 a.m. outside at Black Mountain of Maine will be held prior to an inaugural hike.  The Black and White Trail connects Black Mountain of Maine in the Swift River Valley with Rumford Whitecap in the Ellis River Valley.

    The Dirigo girls' tennis team finished the regular season with a respectable 9-3 record and then found the going rough when it lost 4-1 to Hall Dale in the Mountain Valley championship meet held last Wednesday.
    The Lady Cougars will need to raise their level of  play when the Class C playoffs begin this week.
    Against the Bulldogs, the first doubles team of Michelle Morrinson and Lindsy Crutchfield rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win. The rest of the team was not as fortunate, although they didn't go down without a fight.

  • Cougar girls down Bulldogs

    ROUND OF 48 -- Addy Fuller (left) and Ryanne Dailey both advanced to the round of 48 in the Maine Principal's Association Singles Tennis Tournament held at Lewiston High School on May 14. Fuller was the sixth seed in the tournament and won her prelim defeating Casandra Wilson of Oak Hill and then eliminated Shelby McGibney of Hall Dale. Dailey moved through the prelim round on a forfeit and won her qualifying round by knocking off Julia Varney of Maranacook. They will play again at Lewiston this Saturday.

  • Dirigo netters downed by Hall-Dale

    DIXFIELD -- Hall-Dale (8-1) defeated Dirigo (4-6) by 4-1 in a recent boys' tennis match.
    Singles:  1.  Spencer Shagory (HD) d. Jeremy Grignon, 6-3, 6-3; 2.  Derek Vigue (HD) d. Yosapat Chanarune, 6-0, 6-2; 3; Trevor Statham (D) d. Joshua Peterson, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
