Strong start for Cougar wrestlers
Dec 14, 2012 12:00 amREGION -- A long season looms and there is always room for improvement, some starting out strong provides momentum and that's precisely what the Dirigo wrestling team is banking on.
The Cougars are fully aware that will only transpire though if everyone pulls together and remain fully committed to work at it. The version of Friday Night battles was a near sweep wins against Lisbon 54-21, Dexter 43-36 and Brewer 61-12. The nightcap resulted in a loss to Foxcroft.

Cougar wrestling preview
Dec 07, 2012 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- A team can be successful throughout the season, but then falter when everything is on the line and Dirigo experienced it firsthand.
This current group of wrestlers is hungry and will have an opportunity to take care of some unfinished business. Exactly how far the Cougars will go remains to be seen, however, it's safe to say any momentum must come from inside.
Cougar boys' basketball preview
Dec 07, 2012 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- There will be some differences when the Dirigo boys varsity basketball team hits the hardwood because of the turnover of personnel. However, everyone can expect to see the same type of hard work and high intensity level.
The Cougars' new look will be quite evident with three lettermen returning from the 2012 team that won over 20 games and beat Lee Academy in the Class C State Championship game. This will require an adjustment by all those involved to rekindle the success.

Dec 07, 2012 12:00 amRSU 10 should be commended for finally addressing the issue of school-activity related concussions. There has been an increase in incidents during recent years, especially nationally with the NFL leading the charge.
The problem has filtered throughout each state and school system. It's quite evident that football is a contact sport, however, soccer can be equally as dangerous when players are battling for loose balls.
But head injuries can also occur in physical education class or recess activity.
Cougar girls' basketball preview
Dec 07, 2012 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- There will be plenty of things to work on, but the Dirigo Cougars girls' basketball team returns a solid group and could be a surprise to the rest of the competition.
The Lady Cougars slipped a little last winter, after having won 12 games in each of the previous two seasons. They will need to be consistent throughout this season and that means being ready to play every game. Things to attend to include boxing out, rebounding, ball handling skills and outside shooting.

Dec 07, 2012 12:00 amBagging that big buck doesn’t have to end with the closing of the firearms season – hunters can continue to pursue whitetails with muzzle loading rifles.
The last week of muzzle loading deer season, in full swing this week, runs from December 3 through December 8 in Wildlife Management Districts 12, 13, 15–18, 20–26, and 29.
Muzzle loading rifles are loaded, as the name implies, by pouring black powder down the barrel and shoving a projectile into the muzzle. A ramrod pushes the bullet down the barrel, seating it firmly on the charge of gunpowder.
