Dirigo track preview
Apr 19, 2013 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- The performances in track is two-fold and it comes down to either the fastest time or the great distance, which Dirigo believes it has on both the girls' and boys' teams who will make a difference.
The Cougars could be starting out behind the eight-ball because of the lack of a regular track. But the student-athletes do a prolific job while utilizing the surrounding areas, football field at Harlow Park, Nash Street, high school parking lot to push each other. The team is also been being bused up to the track, encompassing Chet Bulger Field at the Hosmer Complex.
GRCC floor hockey playoffs
Apr 19, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The GRCC floor hockey playoffs will begin on April 24.
Games on Wednesday, April 24 are 3:30 (AHL), 4:15 (NHL), 5 (NHL) and 5:45 (NHL), and 6:30 (adult) and 7:15 (adult). Games on Thursday, April 25 are 6 p.m. (NHL) and 6:45 (NHL). On Monday, April 29 are the AHL final (5:30) and the NHL final (6:30). On Wednesday, May 1 at 6 is the adult final.Babe Ruth baseball tryouts

It's for ages 13-15 (the age as of April 30). If you played last year, you still must register by this Sunday, as the first practice is this day at 5 p.m. at Hosmer Field.

Apr 19, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- There will always be highs and lows during the spring season, so the objective for the Mountain Valley softball team is to try and limit the latter in its attempt to reach greater heights.
The Lady Falcons need to direct themselves and how each player must be prepared to react to different situations. A majority of the load will rest on the shoulders of several veterans who will be counted on to wade through the rugged Mountain Valley Conference.
Cougar girls triumph in track meet
Apr 19, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The ability to start off on a fast track was exactly what the Dirigo girls' team was banking on and Sylvia Lutick provided a boost by winning two events to help make a difference.
The Cougars proved to have to much depth as the girls scored 106 points to easily win a six-team meet, while Kaitlyn Virgin was also a double winner to lead Mountain Valley to a fourth place finish (58.5) at the track encompassing Chet Bulger Field at the Hosmer Complex.

Apr 19, 2013 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- In tennis, the amount of court time received can prove to be invaluable and that’s what the Dirigo girls' team is banking on for the upcoming season. It’s a new campaign, however, there will be a mixture of veterans and new faces on the roster.
The Lady Cougars took their share of hits from the other Mountain Valley Conference last spring. It produced four wins, but the players realize that they have the skills to make a difference.

Maine Amateur Wrestling to HOF to induct Gilbert
Apr 12, 2013 12:00 amDIXFIELD --There is not much that Doug Gilbert hasn't experienced in wrestling. Even after five decades, a burning desire still fuels the fire because every match has the potential for future success.
Gilbert, the current Dirigo coach, has truly gained respect through out the wrestling community and those efforts and sacrifices haven't gone unnoticed. He will be inducted in the Maine Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame this summer. He will be joined by Dr. Tom Ward, Maynard Pelletier, Jon Kane and Rusty Smith.
Dirigo baseball team preview
Apr 12, 2013 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- Over the past few seasons, the level of expectations have been extremely high surrounding the Dirigo baseball team and this spring will be no exception because there is plenty to go around. Exactly how far the Cougars will be able to go lies directly in the players abilities to execute.
Still, the program has developed a winning tradition, but at the same time, the players realize that nothing can be taken for granted. Last spring, the Cougars lost the first game of the season to St. Doms and then won 19 straight, including the state championship.
