  • AYF news

    MEXICO -- Area Youth Football coached should attend a meeting on Wednesday, July 27 at the Mexico Recreation Center.

    On July 28, signups and equipment will be handed out at the rec center for kids entering third through sixth grade. Payment is needed before equipment is issued.

    Cost is $65 for a new player, $35 for a returning player not needing a jersey.

    The player draft will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 at the Mountain Valley Middle School. All players and parents need to attend.

    Avid anglers, like anyone else pursuing a passion, can get a little carried away with purchasing too many new gadgets. When it comes right down to it, all one needs for catching fish is a line, a worm, and a fishing license.

    It has required a lot of planning and hard work by a number of individuals. The task has been extremely rewarding and thending will be in sight soon. So goes the plight of the Harlow Park lights project.

  • Players of the Game

    Dallas Berry was the Green Monster Player of the Game on June 30th against Husson.

    Dallas is eight years old and is in his third season with the Green Monsters. Dallas has really emerged as a leader on the team this year and is a good role model to the younger players.

    He has had many great games this season, but we made him wait until the last game to give him player of the game. He is so competitive we knew making him wait would drive him to work harder. Dallas had a solid offensive game going 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple.

  • Blais fires a two-hitter in win

    DIXFIELD -- Conner Blais was well aware of the intended plans, however, he had alternative ideas and Swasey-Torrey definitely benefited by the developments in an American Legion baseball game.

    Blais pitched a complete game two-hitter as Swasey-Torrey pulled away late for a 4-1 win over Mechanic Falls in the final home contest at Harlow Park.

    Post 10 found itself in a highly competitive affair before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Justin Conant and Adam Volkernick each hit RBI singles off MF starter Kurt Johnson.

  • Two bad innings cost locals in sweep

    DIXFIELD -- Swasey-Torrey received a dose first hand on exactly how quickly things can swing the tide.

    Arik Fenstermacher and Adam Volkernick each provided solid pitching performances as Post 100 found itself in the cat bird seat, however, those respective starts were derailed along the way. Fenstermacher struck out 14 batters in seven innings and Volkernick entered the sixth inning with a 5-1 lead.

    Swasey-Torrey was victim to two bad innings -- allowing 10 and seven runs as Windham rallied to win 14-4 and 8-6 in an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

  • Lobster Bowl event Saturday

    RIVER VALLEY -- The Lobster Bowl has become recognized as a premier event for football players and has taken on a life of its own.

    A trio of locals have been selected to participate in the 22nd annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl classic, which will be played Saturday this Saturday. The game will be played at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford, kickoff at 4 p.m.

  • Hole in one

    MEXICO -- Recently, Andy Labrecque recorded a hole in one at the Oakdale Country Club.

    He made the shot on hole 13, 145 yards, using an eight iron.

    Witnessing the shot were Gary Williamson, Don Haynes, Jeff Gurney, Don Hebert, Carroll Noyes and Richard Tibbets.

  • Post 100 gains DH split

    DIXFIELD -- There is always room for redemption and Swasey-Torrey definitely heated up the situation Saturday by coming together

    Conner Blais and Izaak Mills and Swasey-Torrey erupted for 10 runs in the third inning en route to a 13-0 win to earn a split with Bethel in an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

    It was in sharp contrast to the competitiveness of the 4-3 Bethel triumph in the first game. Swasey—Torrey took control with single runs in the first two innings of the night cap. Mills and Blais each had RBI doubles off Bethel starter Jed Clarke.
