  • Friendship Series gets underway today

REGION -- The wrestling will be genuine when competitors step on the mat for the 27th annual Maine/Nebraska Friendship Series, with Mount Blue hosting the second leg of the event on June 23 at 6 p.m.

The Cougar venue will feature 15 wrestlers from Mountain Valley, Oak Hill and Dirigo.

The Cornhuskers competed at Winslow on June 21, and wrestle at Morse on June 25th and Marshwood on June 27th. The exchange was created in 1985 and is the longest running exchange between two states in the entire country.

  • Cougar rally falls short in regional final

STANDISH -- Prior to the game, Dirigo echoed the adage of early and often, regarding the ability to score runs. However, the latter materialized late and a seventh inning rally simply came up a little short.

The Cougars started slow, but got the offense going by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh, with the tying and go-ahead runners on base, but the efforts were not enough as Saint Dominics won 7-6 to reclaim the Class C Western regional championship.

  • Analysis of Dirigo baseball team

First and foremost, there’s no “I” in team because every player is an equal part, they rejoice after each win and share in the losses. The disappointment was quite evident on the faces of the Dirigo baseball players as they sat in the dugout following a loss in the regional championship game. The Cougars season had ended prematurely, exactly one game shy of their predetermined goal.

  • Cougars avenge St. Dom's to claim MVC title

FARMINGTON -- It certainly wasn’t a thing of beauty, however, Dirigo persevered to win its first-ever Mountain Valley Conference baseball championship under the lights at historic Hippach Field.

The Cougars started slow, but got the offense going by scoring eight runs in the third and fourth innings en route to a solid 10-4 win against Saint Dominics.

  • River Valley Outdoors

Stepping into the waist-deep, swirling stream was like stepping into another time zone.

The deep green foliage surrounded the little stream with cooling shade, like hundreds of leafy arms, protecting the trout-filled waters from the hot sun. I needed a refreshing dip to replenish my body and mind.
