  • Cougar play tennis doubleheader

    RUMFORD -- Good weather is upon us, let's play two! That’s exactly what the Dirigo girls' tennis team did.

    The Lady Cougars played Mountain Valley at its regularly scheduled time and then the lights were turned on at Pierce courts for a match against Jay.

    The results were mixed, but a 4-1 win over Carrabec completed its regular-season schedule at 9-3, compared to 4-8 in 2010.

    The action began with a 4-1 win against rival MV, in pro-set matches.

  • Dirigo girls defeat Madison

    DIXFIELD -- The Dirigo girls' tennis team moved to 7-2 with a 4-1 win over Madison (2-6) on May 18.

    In singles:

    Betsy Noyes (D) defeated Jessica Theberge, 7-6 (7-5), 6 - 3; Addy Fuller (D) defeated Lindsey Kandiko, 6-0, 6-0;

    Meredith Brown (D) over Logan Bruneau (injury default).

    In doubles:

    Raeanne Curtis and Taylor Longstaff (M) defeated Emily Ray and Summer McCollough, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

  • STATE LOGGING MEET

    STATE LOGGING MEET -- Kenny Haas and Ricky Osgood of Region 9 are seen working together during the skidder competition at the recent 35th annual High School Woodsmen's Competition held at Mountain View Campground in Dixfield. Foster Technical School of Farmington won the overall competition with a combined total of 56.5 points, with host Region 9 in second with 38.5, Region 2 of Houlton took bronze.

  • Dirigo rounds out football staff

    DIXFIELD -- For David Crutchfield, the greater amount of preparation will hopefully translate in to success on the football field this fall. That’s been Crutchfield’s objective since having been named the coach at Dirigo High School.

  • TURKEY BAGGED

    TURKEY BAGGED -- Cameron Shaw, 13 of Byron, son of proud mom, April Farnum, bagged his first turkey on May 4. The turkey was shot in Byron and weighed 14.5 pounds. Cameron was accompanied by a very special friend, Andrew Gestaut.

  • Dirigo Wellness Center 5K Race/Walk

    DIXFIELD -- The Dirigo Wellness Center will be hosting a 5K Race/Walk on Sunday, June 5 to raise funds that will be used to maintain and upgrade the center equipment and to purchase/replace needed items.

    Health Coordinator Laurie Soucy noted, “With the school budget being cut, I don't want to ask for a lot so I am doing the fundraising to cover those expenses.”

  • MV girls play well in loss to Rebels

    RUMFORD -- It’s not always how you start, but what happens after that and the Telstar-Mountain Valley softball teams experienced the darkside at the old ball grounds.

    A two-run triple by Victoria Forkus highlighted a six-run sixth inning as the Lady Rebels needed everything in a 10-5 win against the scrappy Falcons.

    Telstar (9-1) entered the game with high expectations because it was the first outing to get back on track after losing 2-1 at Dirigo, their first regular season loss in three years.

  • Falcon girls earn lacrosse win

    REGION -- The Mountain Valley girls took its show on the road and returned with one win, in three games. Ayla Allen scored 11 goals and goalie Jordan True shined in a 16-10 win over Lincoln Academy. They were run over in losses to Oxford Hills and Gorham.

    In the second half, the Falcons would score five unanswered goals to take command of the game. Chelsea Bordeau scored at 20:15 and Allen would score the next four goals, the first two in an 18-second span. Tia White assisted on the first two and the fourth goal put MV up 13-7.
