MV girls play well in loss to Rebels
May 27, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- It’s not always how you start, but what happens after that and the Telstar-Mountain Valley softball teams experienced the darkside at the old ball grounds.
A two-run triple by Victoria Forkus highlighted a six-run sixth inning as the Lady Rebels needed everything in a 10-5 win against the scrappy Falcons.
Telstar (9-1) entered the game with high expectations because it was the first outing to get back on track after losing 2-1 at Dirigo, their first regular season loss in three years.
Falcon girls earn lacrosse win
May 27, 2011 12:00 amREGION -- The Mountain Valley girls took its show on the road and returned with one win, in three games. Ayla Allen scored 11 goals and goalie Jordan True shined in a 16-10 win over Lincoln Academy. They were run over in losses to Oxford Hills and Gorham.
In the second half, the Falcons would score five unanswered goals to take command of the game. Chelsea Bordeau scored at 20:15 and Allen would score the next four goals, the first two in an 18-second span. Tia White assisted on the first two and the fourth goal put MV up 13-7.
Falcon girls come up short to Morse
May 27, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- the Mountain Valley girls' lacrosse squad wasn’t able to keep the game within two goals most of the way and came up short in a hard fought 21-14 loss against Morse in the Hosmer Complex.
The Lady Falcons had lost last year to Morse, 10-9; had a chance to tie the game with 30 seconds to go but shot went wide.
MV coach Rick White said the Shipbuilders simply had to much fire power offensively because their players utilized a passing attack to spread the field.

Senior Arik Fenstermacher pitched a complete game four hitter and Justin Conant drove in the eventual winning run with a sacrifice fly on a heads up play by Caleb Turner in the third inning as the Cougars remained unbeaten with a triumph against Telstar at sunny Harlow Park.
Vikings down Falcons in lacrosse
May 20, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The competitiveness was evident between Oxford Hills and Mountain Valley in boys' lacrosse. However the atmosphere shifted dramatically in a game on May 14.
Collin Tucker scored six goals, four on power plays as Oxford Hills proceeded to take advantage of every situation in a 17-7 triumph over Mountain Valley.
Cougar girls knock Rebels from unbeaten ranks
May 20, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- To the victors go the spoils and the Dirigo softball team certainly fit the billing Friday afternoon in a Mountain Valley Conference game.
Junior Aylssa Wade pitched a complete game and the Lady Cougars scored two runs in the third inning and held on for a 2-1 upset win over previously unbeaten Telstar at Marble Park. The Rebels, who had beat Dirigo two weeks ago in Bethel, suffered their first regular season loss in three years.
Dirigo Wellness Center 5K Race/Walk
May 20, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD- The Dirigo Wellness Center will be hosting a 5K Race/Walk on Sunday, June 5 to raise funds that will be used to maintain and upgrade the center equipment and to purchase/replace needed items.
Health Coordinator Laurie Soucy noted, “With the school budget being cut, I don't want to ask for a lot so I am doing the fundraising to cover those expenses.”
Dirigo tennis girls win, 5-0

Racing Hearts
May 20, 2011 12:00 amRACING HEARTS- The front runners in the 1st Annual Healthy Hearts 5K are seen here as they cross the Memorial Bridge in Rumford Sunday. Dan Crooker went on to win the mens' division with a time of 17:27, Nick Woods took second with 19:43 and Gunnar Bradbury took third with a time of 19:58. The inaugural event had 90 participants and raised almost $2,000 for the American Heart Association.
