100 wins each by five Cougar wrestlers
Mar 08, 2013 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- For decades, reaching the century mark in career wins is in the back of the mind of countless wrestlers and that opportunity has become even more attainable in recent years. Still, the feat that five Dirigo teammates accomplished during the recently completed season was truly amazing.
There had been small talk about it, prior to the season because the seniors realized the milestone(s) were achievable. So each one made it a goal and in under a span of one month - January to February - the century mark became history.
Young wrestlers do well at classic
Mar 08, 2013 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The opportunity to test skills against live competition was certainly front and center on the wrestling mats in the 13th annual Mountain Valley Youth Classic at packed Puiia Gymnasium.
The well-known event has continued to provide strong competition and this year proved to be no exception.
This included age groups, beginning with MV pre-kindergartener, first-second, third-fourth grades, fifth-sixth and seven-eighth grades. Team scores in k-4 had Wells (104) beating out Mountain Valley (93) and Lebanon (91).

Big Dan “The Automotive Man” was playing tunes on his karaoke machine. The pool players were warming up by doing the Ali shuffle.
Mountain Valley Rec Basketball Tournament
Mar 01, 2013 12:00 amREGION -- The Mountain Valley Rec Basketball League, in conjunction with the Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters, will host the 14th annual invitational basketball tournament on March 22-24.
Usually the tournament is held the last week of March, but has been moved up due to Easter Sunday on March 31.
Cougar boys rally to shoot down Seagulls
Mar 01, 2013 12:00 amAUGUSTA -- The ability to execute can never be underestimated and the Dirigo boys' basketball team would certainly agree after having been pushed to the brink in a Class C quarterfinal playoff game.
Riley Robinson scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the final 6:47 of the fourth as the Cougars rallied down the stretch for as 50-47 win against Old Orchard Beach.
