Rec hoop tournament
Mar 18, 2011 12:21 amRUMFORD -- The Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters, along with the Mountain Valley Rec Basketball League, will be hosting the 12th annual MV Rec Basketball Tournament on March 25-27.
This event has a 25-plus year heritage starting in Rangeley as The Mike's Pub n Grub Tournament in the early '80s.
The tournament holds 16 teams in an A an B division format. Games will be played at MVHS for the A division and MVMS for the B division in a round robin format with each team playing at 3 games Friday night and Saturday.
Cougars battle tough but lose bid for gold ball
Mar 11, 2011 12:00 amBANGOR -- They battled to the bitter end, however the best of efforts proved to be to much to overcome for the Dirigo boys' basketball team in the Class C State Championship game.
The Cougars had cut the deficit to seven points on baskets by Spencer Ross and Cody St. Germain down the stretch, but Lee Academy had the answers in a 65-55 win at the Bangor Auditorium on Saturday. It was the third straight appearance in the state game for the Cougars.

Kaubris is semifinalist for Mr. Maine Basketball
Mar 11, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- To be recognized for athletic performances is rewarding and Cameron Kaubris certainly realizes the honor shouldn’t be taken lightly, so he is relishing in having been named a semifinalist for Mr. Maine Basketball.
The Mountain Valley standout has been selected to play in the annual McDonalds All-Star weekend at Husson College in Bangor. The winning recipients of Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball will be announced at a banquet this Friday.
Future wrestlers shine at youth classic

Locals named conference all-stars
Mar 11, 2011 12:00 amIn every team sport, there is always a handful of players who create additional attention by standing out in one or more aspect on the playing surface.
Mountain Valley competed throughout the fall and each coach had an opportunity to nominate players for respective Mountain Valley Conference all-star teams.
In basketball, the Mountain Valley boys had Cameron Kaubris make first team Northern Division and Northern Division Player of the Year. He is averaged 17.6 points per game, 77 assist and 43 steals.
Becky Shaw Ski Day on Friday
Mar 04, 2011 12:01 amRUMFORD -- The eighth annual Becky Shaw Ski Day will be held on Friday at Black Mountain of Maine.
The proceeds from both regular lift tickets and “Becky Tickets” sold on that day will be donated to the Rebecca Shaw Paraoptometric Education Fund. This fund was created to honor the memory of Becky Shaw and her devotion to the education and training of paraoptometrics, which are allied health personnel who assist optometrists in providing the highest level of eye care to patients.
Making their tournament mark

That’s because the Maine Principal Association has programs, which includes records compiled by Robert E. Butler. These are both individual and team records. Additionally, individual award winners from each regional tournament and past state champions are listed.
Cougars pull away to ground Flyers

TJ Frost provided the Cougars with a spark and Ben Holmes led a second-half surge in a 55-37 win over No. 4 Waynflete.
GRCC floor hockey
Mar 04, 2011 12:01 amRUMFORD -- The Greater Rumford Community Center is taking signups for floor hockey through March 11.
Even if you played last year, you must still register. If you do not sign up by March 11, they cannot guarantee you will placed on a team.
The AHL is for boys and girls in grades 1-4, with the NHL for boys and girls in grades 5-8.

For anyone interested in coaching, there will be a meeting on Tuesday, March 8, with the AHL at 5 p.m. and the NHL at 6 p.m.
