Durland considered among the best
Feb 04, 2011 12:01 amREGION -- Every football player must be willing to put in the time in an effort to succeed and Christian Durland certainly did, so his performances were considered to be among the best.
The Mountain Valley senior was a runner-up for the inaugural Frank J. Memorial Offensive and Defensive Lineman Awards, which was presented to one offensive and one defensive lineman in the state.
“The banquet went great,” said Durland. The event was held January 23 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Lady Cougars upset the Andies
Feb 04, 2011 12:01 amDIXFIELD -- Hannah Knight and Angela Ronan each scored 11 points, but their free throws proved vital as the Lady Cougars pulled away down the stretch for a 39-36 upset win against Livermore Falls in girl’s basketball.
Top-ranked Livermore Falls (12-2) had beaten No. 4 Dirigo (11-3), last month. The score was tied or changed nine times in the third quarter and it was certainly a prelude of what was on tap.
Cougar boys dominate Andies, 56-34
Feb 04, 2011 12:01 amDIXFIELD -- Caleb Turner led all scorers with 16 points and Cody St. Germain recorded a double-double as the Dirigo boys' basketball team dominated in a 56-34 triumph against Livermore Falls.
The Andies were looking to avenge a 46-44 loss to Dirigo. However, it wasn’t meant to be. The Cougars started fast with five three pointers in the first quarter and never let up, putting Livermore Falls in a hole that was impossible to crawl back from.
Kaubris honored for 1,000 points

The mark became a reality for Cam Kaubris, who joined the exclusive club in a game against Jay on Martin Luther King Day. The Falcons had another game on the road later that week at Saint Dominics.
Lady Falcons hold on to edge Cobras

Ayla Allen recorded a double-double by scoring a game-high 16 points and hauling down 11 rebounds as the Lady Falcons held on for a 48-46 win against Carrabec at Puiia Gymnasium.
MVHS boys roll over Cobras
Feb 04, 2011 12:01 amRUMFORD -- The Mountain Valley boys' basketball team might not have started strong, but they heated up en route to a 72-23 triumph over winless Carrabec.
Class B Mountain Valley discovered early on things were not right and were held scoreless until Justin Carter made two free throws with 4:35 remaining in the first quarter. Carrabec had taken a lead on a Spencer Shaw (11 points) three pointer. The Falcons finally got straightened out and scored 11 unanswered points.
Falcons runnerup in Mid-State League
Feb 04, 2011 12:01 amFRYEBURG -- There was a few surprises, but Fryeburg Academy needed every single one to score 173.50 points to win their first-ever Mid-State League wrestling championship Saturday over Mountain Valley with 169 points.
Fryeburg champions Connor Sheehan (103 pounds), Jake Thurston (130) and Stephan Emery (152).
Mountain Valley, the defending champion, captured the most champions with five. Ryan Burgess (119), Taylor Carey (171), Josh Allen (189), Christian Durland (215) and Ryan Glover (285). Cody Magoon was a finalist at 125.
Cougars win exciting overtime game
Jan 28, 2011 12:01 amDIXFIELD -- Caleb Turner calmly sank 10 of 13 free throws, including six in overtime as Dirigo pulled together for a 62-59 win against Monmouth in a boys' basketball game.
The crossover contest is the only scheduled meeting, so the contest at DeFoe Gymnasium provided to be extremely important. Dirigo (10-1) is ranked second and Monmouth (8-4) is fourth.
Lady Cougars pull away for 51-37 win

Seniors Hannah Knight and Alyssa Wade combined for 33 points as the Lady Cougars pulled away down the stretch for a 51-37 win against Monmouth Academy at Defoe Gymnasium.
Memorable experience as a Fitzy finalist
Jan 28, 2011 12:01 amRUMFORD -- It was still quite an experience and one that Cam Kaubris will always remember because the Mountain Valley student-athlete was among the three finalists for the 40th James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy.
The award, which recognizes the top senior football player in the state, was handed out during a banquet at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. Scholarship and citizenship are also considered and winner Peter Gwilym was the first-ever from Cheverus.
