  • Stanley Goodwin French

    RUMFORD -– Stanley Goodwin French, 76, of Round Pond, Isle au Haut, and Rumford, died peacefully on October 21, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital with his loving family by his side.

    Stanley was born in Weston, Massachusetts on May 17, 1935, and was the son of Stanley Goodwin French and Mary Hubbard French.

    Stanley was married on August 26, 1961 to Susannah Sewall Alden, who survives him.

  • Alton "Buster" Wing

    AUBURN -- Alton "Buster" Wing, 83, of Dixfield, died on Oct. 29, 2011 at the Hospice House.

    He was born March 16, 1928, in Mexico, the son of Archie and Rose (Richards) Wing. He attended local schools and received an honorary degree from Dirigo High School.

    He served in the Seabees and Army during WWII and on May 1, 1948, married Jessie Steward. He was employed at Oxford Paper Co. and then later worked as a custodian at Dirigo and as a bus driver/custodian at SAD 21 Region 9 Vocational Technical School.

  • Lorraine “Mema” M. Adley

    FARMINGTON -– Lorraine “Mema” M. Adley, 81, of Rumford, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2012 at Franklin Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

    She was born in Mexico on July 29, 1930, a daughter of Frank and Mary (Blanchard) Arsenault.

    She married Garfield Adley on February 3, 1951 and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage. He passed away on July 8, 1999.

  • Funeral services held for Joseph R. Sciaraffa

    RUMFORD -- Graveside services for Joseph R. Sciaraffa of Rumford were conducted on July 7, 2011 at St. John Cemetery, with Fr. James Martel officiating.

    Military Honors were given by the Maine Military Funeral Honors program from Augusta.

    A reception followed at the Home of Anita Richardson in Rumford.

    Arrangements were under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

  • Flora L. Roy

    WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT -- Flora L. Roy, 88, died on Oct. 16, 2011 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, VT.

    She was born on Aug. 5, 1923 in Beecher Falls, VT, a daughter of Eloi Andre and Melanie (Johnson) Roy. After graduating from Stephens High School in Rumford where she spent her career working for the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT.

    She retiring, she has resided in White River Junction to be nearer to her sister, Estelle St. Jacques.

  • Jeanne Roseanne Kenney

    O'FALLON, IL -- Jeanne Roseanne Kenney, nee Gionet, 67, of O’Fallon, IL, born March 10, 1944 in Rumford, Maine, passed away at her home, surrounded by her beloved family, on October 29, 2011.

    Jeanne was employed by Civil Service in the Military Housing Branch for 22 years, retiring in 2008, from Scott AFB Housing Office. Prior to her civil service work, she was employed in Credit Union Management for 13 years.

  • Gladys White Sampson

    FARMINGTON -- Gladys White Sampson, 90, of Vienna, and Vero Beach, FL, died on Oct. 10, 2011 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

    Gladys was born in North Jay on June 29, 1921, the daughter of Carl B. and Lena (Merrill) Wright. She attended Macomber Hill School in North Jay and graduated from Jay High School.

    She worked for the Wilton Woolen Mill and retired from Bass Shoe after 25-years.

    Gladys married Leon E. White on June 30, 1946. They made their home in Wilton and raised one son, George C. White.

    Leon passed away in December of 1990.

  • Robert Joseph Bernard

    TOGUS -– Robert Joseph Bernard, 90, formerly of Penobscot Street, Rumford, died on October 28, 2011 at the Hospice unit at Togus.

    He was born in Mexico on January 18, 1921, a son of John J. and Margaret Bernard. Bob was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1940.

    He served in the U.S Army during WWII and was a member of the National Guard.

    Bob was employed at the Oxford Paper Co. in the rewinder department, and was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior.

  • Frederick Allen Moore

    BEDFORD, NH — Frederick Allen Moore, formerly of Rumford and Wayne, died on Oct. 22, 2011.

    He was born July 11, 1918, the son of Clifford and Pearl Yeo Moore in Harmony, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He attended schools in both PEI and Rumford.

    Fred served in the U.S. Navy during WW II aboard the USS Garrard (APA 84), a troop transport ship. He was aboard the ship in Tokyo Bay when the surrender papers were signed ending the war. Proud of his service, he maintained a membership in the Rumford VFW.

  • Funeral services held for Earl L. Marr, Jr.

    RUMFORD -- Funeral services for Earl L. Marr, Jr. of Rumford, were conducted on August 11, 2011 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, with Fr. Phil Tracy officiating.

    Music selections were On Eagle’s Wings and Wind Beneath My Wings.

    Words of remembrance were given by his son, Danny Marr.

    A reception followed at the home of his daughters, June and John Giambattista.

    Graveside services with military honors were conducted on August 12, 2011 at St. John Cemetery, Rumford with Fr. Phil Tracy officiating.
