Millie Belskis
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amAUBURN –- Millie Belskis, 90, of Rumford died on September 22, 2011 in Auburn with her family by her side.
Born in Riley on August 27, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Bernardino and Alice (Angelo) Cornelio. She attended schools in Riley.
For many years, she was well known for her house cleaning business and for over eight years she worked in the house keeping and laundry dept. and the Dixfield Health Care Center in Dixfield until her retirement in 1988.
Charles Pidacks
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amFRAMINGHAM, MA -- Charles Pidacks, 92, of Ashland, MA passed away on Sept. 24, 2011 at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA.
He was born Feb. 18, 1919 in Rumford, the son of the late Stanley and Stella (Urbanitis) Pidacks.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Janet (Belden) Pidacks of Ashland, MA.
Walter J. “Jim” Hutchins
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD –- Walter J. “Jim” Hutchins, 79, died on September 25, 2011 at his residence on the Wyman Hill Road in Rumford.
Born in Lewiston on July 7, 1932, he was a son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Prout) Hutchins. He attended schools in Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1952. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Diamond International and the Rumford Hospital in the Maintenance Dept.
He was married in Buckfield on July 23, 1955 to Sylvia Stinchfield, who survives of Rumford.
Carol Elaine Stone
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amFARMINGTON –- Carol Elaine Stone, 66, of Dixfield, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Sept. 12, 2011 with family at her side.
She was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Canton, the daughter of Albert and Virginia (Averill) Viitala.
She had a brief stay at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington where she received special hospice care for her recently diagnosed cancer.
Her life was spent helping others by doing volunteer work in her community. All that knew her were touched by her genuine nature and her kind way.
Evangeline G. Breton
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Evangeline G. Breton, 97, of Pine Street, died on Sept. 13, 2011 at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness, with loving family at her side.
She was born in Rumford on December 12, 1913, a daughter of Peter J. and Ida (Fortier) Perry. Evangeline was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1933.
She was employed for several years at Irish’s Market on Pine Street.
She married Raymond L. Breton in June of 1937 and together they celebrated 39 years of marriage. He passed away on January 23, 1976.
Funeral services held for Florence M. “Flolly” Barrett
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- Funeral services for Florence M. “Flolly” Barrett of Rumford were conducted on July 21, 2011 at the Mexico Congregational Church, with Pastor Connie Insley officiating.
Organist was Cindy Bohren. Music included Amazing Grace.
The Reading of Footprints was given by granddaughter Amanda Barrett Jacques. Special piano solo Be Still My Soul, was played by Cindy Bohren.
Committal services were conducted by Pastor Connie Insley.
Interment was in the Farrington-Morton Cemetery, Mexico.
Jeffrey W. Gauvin
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amWOOLWICH -– Jeffrey W. Gauvin, 52, passed away peacefully on Sept 17, 2011.
He was born on May 24, 1959 in Bath to the late Robert (Bob) and Beverly (Van Buren) Gauvin. He grew up in Bath and was a graduate of Morse High School.
On June 15, 1985 he married Nathalie Simmons in Brunswick.
Jeff worked at the Bath Iron works for almost 35 years and Bath YMCA for 10 years. Jeff was a member of the BIWRA, BIW Fire Dept and Woolwich Fire Dept. He also coached youth baseball, basketball and swimming for many years.
Funeral services held for Tammy Philbrick
Sep 16, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- A graveside service honoring the life of Tammy Philbrick was on September 10, 2011 at Farrington-Morton Cemetery. Fr. Philip Tracy officiated. The eulogy was given by her husband, Richie Philbrick.
Special music was I Won’t Let Go by Rascal Flatts.
Pallbearers were Luke Hyde, Barry Martin, Todd Blodgett, Jeremy Martin, Justin Yates, Albert Pomerleau Sr., Albert Pomerleau, Jr., and Austin Blodgett.
A reception followed at the home of Todd and Stacy Blodgett in Dixfield.
Joseph E.R. Martineau
Sep 16, 2011 12:00 amAUGUSTA -- Joseph E.R. Martineau, 83, formerly of Rumford, died on September 8, 2011 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
He was born in Rumford on November 11, 1927, a son of Joseph P. and Blanche (Boivin) Martineau. Joseph was educated in Rumford schools and received an honorary diploma from Mountain Valley High School in 2004.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the Navy reserves after 27 years of service.
Steven Hale
Sep 16, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- Steven Hale, 62, of Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 29, 2011 at his residence.
He was born in Berlin, NH on Sept. 25, 1948, the son of Norman and Dorothy Hale of West Bethel.
Steven attended Bethel schools and graduated from Gould Academy. He attended Bentley College and then Northeastern University in Boston, where he received his bachelor's degree in Business Management.
Residing in Boston for most of his life, he worked for a tire company as a wholesale distributor. Later, he was involved in the finance area before returning to Maine.
