Frances Duguay Martin
Oct 07, 2011 12:00 amCONCORD, NH -- Frances Duguay Martin, 85, of Boscawen, NH, formerly of Dickvale Road in Peru, died on Sept. 18, 2011 in Concord, NH.
She was born in Rumford on Dec. 7, 1925, daughter of James and Angelina (Gallant) Duguay. She attended Rumford schools and Stephens High School.
On Nov. 28, 1942, she married Edmond Martin of Mexico. They moved to Peru in 1949 and had eight children before moving to Boscawen.
Mavis "Ma" C. Burnham Dowland
Oct 07, 2011 12:00 amCANTON -- Mavis "Ma" C. Burnham Dowland, 78, of the Victorian Villa, died on Sept. 28, 2011 with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Newry on May 1, 1933 to the late Lincoln and Hazel (Bucknam) Burnham. Mavis graduated from Stephens High School.
She loved to read and shared that love by working as a literacy volunteer helping others to learn how to read. Her favorite times were spent enjoying the company of family and friends, having cookouts, playing cards, playing bingo, and games like Scrabble and cribbage.
Therese M. LeBlanc
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amPARKER, ARIZONA -- Therese M. LeBlanc of Roxbury Road in Mexico, died on September 13, 2011 in Parker, AZ.
She was born in Notre Dame des Bois, Quebec, Canada, the 11th child of 12, to Arthur and Josephine (Dube) Dupuis.
Therese attended Normal school in Sherbrooke, Canada, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in St. Leon, Quebec.
In 1947, she immigrated to the State of Maine, where she worked as a waitress and at the Oxford Paper Company, until she met Florent LeBlanc. They married in 1949 and spent 60 years together.
Alcide “Al” Bernier
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amBATH -- Alcide “Al” Bernier, 97, formerly of Rumford, died on September 19, 2011. Though a resident of Rumford most of his life, he resided in Bath with his son and daughter-in-law, Maurice and Mildred Bernier, for the last seven years.
He was born in Rumford on May 14, 1914, the son of Napoleon and Olive Bernier. He attended St. John School in Rumford, and he also attended school in Canada.
Funeral services held for Steven Hale
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- The life of Steven Hall was celebrated with family and friends on Sept. 8, 2011 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Special music was sung by Cindy Bulger, The Our Father, and Will You Remember Me; Noel Palmer sang Keeper of The Stars; good friends Charley and Sandy sang a song he wrote, One Day at a Time.
Scripture readings were done by Roger Plante; Sirach: True friendship, and Psalm 23, The Lord is My Shepherd.
Eulogies were done by Geri Viger, Sharon Madore and Jim Barnett.
The last song, I Am Your Angle, was sung by all whom Steven loved.
Millie Belskis
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amAUBURN –- Millie Belskis, 90, of Rumford died on September 22, 2011 in Auburn with her family by her side.
Born in Riley on August 27, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Bernardino and Alice (Angelo) Cornelio. She attended schools in Riley.
For many years, she was well known for her house cleaning business and for over eight years she worked in the house keeping and laundry dept. and the Dixfield Health Care Center in Dixfield until her retirement in 1988.
Charles Pidacks
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amFRAMINGHAM, MA -- Charles Pidacks, 92, of Ashland, MA passed away on Sept. 24, 2011 at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA.
He was born Feb. 18, 1919 in Rumford, the son of the late Stanley and Stella (Urbanitis) Pidacks.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Janet (Belden) Pidacks of Ashland, MA.
Walter J. “Jim” Hutchins
Sep 30, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD –- Walter J. “Jim” Hutchins, 79, died on September 25, 2011 at his residence on the Wyman Hill Road in Rumford.
Born in Lewiston on July 7, 1932, he was a son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Prout) Hutchins. He attended schools in Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1952. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Diamond International and the Rumford Hospital in the Maintenance Dept.
He was married in Buckfield on July 23, 1955 to Sylvia Stinchfield, who survives of Rumford.
Carol Elaine Stone
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amFARMINGTON –- Carol Elaine Stone, 66, of Dixfield, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Sept. 12, 2011 with family at her side.
She was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Canton, the daughter of Albert and Virginia (Averill) Viitala.
She had a brief stay at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington where she received special hospice care for her recently diagnosed cancer.
Her life was spent helping others by doing volunteer work in her community. All that knew her were touched by her genuine nature and her kind way.
Evangeline G. Breton
Sep 23, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Evangeline G. Breton, 97, of Pine Street, died on Sept. 13, 2011 at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness, with loving family at her side.
She was born in Rumford on December 12, 1913, a daughter of Peter J. and Ida (Fortier) Perry. Evangeline was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1933.
She was employed for several years at Irish’s Market on Pine Street.
She married Raymond L. Breton in June of 1937 and together they celebrated 39 years of marriage. He passed away on January 23, 1976.
