Pamela H. McGinley
Aug 19, 2011 12:00 amHOMER, AK -- Pamela H. McGinley, 58, died in Homer, Alaska on June 4, 2011 after many brave years of struggle with diabetes and kidney failure.
She was born at Rumford Community Hospital on Feb. 26, 1953, the daughter of James and Madelyn McGinley (both now deceased) of Dixfield. She attended Dixfield schools and graduated from the Univ. of Maine at Gorham with a degree in elementary education.
James R. Stoklas
Aug 19, 2011 12:00 amCANTON -- James R. Stoklas, 68, of Rumford, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2011 at Victorian Villa in Canton.
He was born in Rumford on October 3, 1943, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Stoklas. Jim attended St. Athanasius School and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1964.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed for many years with the Oxford Paper Company.
Edmond Collette
Aug 19, 2011 12:00 amLEWISTON -- Edmond Collette, 82, passed away on Aug. 11, 2011 after a brief battle with stomach cancer.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he was born on March 10, 2929 to the late Willie and Laura Collette at Notre Dame, Des Bois, Canada.
Raised in Rumford from a young age, Edmond was employed by First National Grocery Store as a young man. He later worked for Bouffard's Furniture Store and the local paper company, retiring from Mead Paper Co. after 44 years of service.
Allan “Al” Luther Bonney
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amFARMINGTON -– Allan “Al” Luther Bonney, 94, of Falmouth and Weld died on July 20, 2011 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 8, 1917 in Cohassett, MA, the son of Ralph and Suzanne (Pillsbury) Bonney. He was raised in Portland and graduated from Deering High School in 1935. He then attended Portland Junior College and UNH. He might be remembered for his nickname of “Bug” while in high school, or “H.B.” during his college days.
On April 9, 1949, he married Suzanne Swett of Portland, the love of his life for 55 years.
Ellen J. Carey
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO -- Ellen J. Carey, 68, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died on August 7, 2011 at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bob Whitehouse, with loving family at her side.
She was born in Rumford on March 11, 1943 a daughter of Erwin E. and Alice (McDonald) Gould. Ellen was educated in Mexico schools.
She married Edward L. Carey Sr. on July 24, 1965 and together they celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Ellen enjoyed knitting and crocheting and donated many blankets, mittens, hats, and sweaters to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
Francis W. “Frank” Bulger
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amAUBURN -– Francis W. “Frank” Bulger, 71, of Spruce Street in Rumford, died on August 8, 2011 at the Hospice House in Auburn following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Dixfield on June 19, 1940, a son of Earl and Dorothy (Eastman) Bulger. Frank was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1959.
He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard.
Ellery P. Turner Sr.
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amLEWISTON -- Ellery P. Turner Sr., 77, passed away on Aug. 6, 2011 at the Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1933, the son of Mary Porter Turner and Ora Turner.
He was the husband of Phyllis J. Turner. They were married on Nov. 28, 2006.
Linda Florence (Mason) Hastings
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD –- Linda Florence (Mason) Hastings, 97, of Rumford, formerly of Vienna, died Wednesday afternoon Aug. 3, 2011, with family by her side, at the Rumford Community Home where she had been a resident since July of 2009.
She was born April 2, 1914, in Vienna, one of eleven children of Harold and Matilda (Nickerson) Mason. She received her education in Vienna schools and on Oct. 12, 1932, married Charles Hastings in Mt. Vernon. He died on Dec. 10, 1980.
In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at Maine Dowell in Vienna and Fairbanks.
Bert W. Knox
Aug 12, 2011 12:00 amCARTHAGE -- Bert W. Knox, 44, of Carthage, died unexpectedly on August 3, 2011 in Carthage.
Bert was born December 25, 1966 at home in Livermore Falls. He lived most of his life in Carthage.
He married his lifelong sweetheart, Sherry Hutchinson on October 26, 1985. He ran his own business-- Knox & Sons Light Trucking & Excavation.
