Chester A. Gautreau
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amBRADENTON, FL -- Chester A. Gautreau, 85, of Palmetto Florida, formerly of Rumford, died on June 9, 2011 at Braden River Care in Bradenton, FL following a long illness.
He was born in Rumford in September 1925, a son of William and Rose (Chabot) Gautreau. Chester was educated in Rumford schools.
He served in the US Army during WWII, and served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Chester was employed for 33.5 years with Oxford Paper Company.
Margaret Draper Curnow
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amALLENTOWN, PA -- Margaret Draper Curnow, 83, of Delaware Water Gap, PA, passed away On March 9, 2011 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Born on Oct. 1, 1927 in Dexter, ME, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Clifford V. and Mary Louise (Sampson) Cross.
She is the beloved wife of William Curnow, at home. They were married on June 17, 1950, in the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold C. Eaton and the father of the bride, performing the ceremony. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2010.

Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Graveside services with Military Honors for Carmelo Joseph Puiia, Jr. of Rumford, were conducted on May 20, 2011 at St. John Cemetery, with Fr. Phil Tracy officiating.
Special music “Amazing Grace” was sung by Jennifer Waterman.
Military Honors were provided by the Maine Military Funeral Honors Program, Augusta.
Arrangements were under the care of Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
Penny Lynn Thornton
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amLEWISTON -– Penny Lynn Thornton, 47, of E. Livermore, died on May 30, 2011 at the Central Maine Medical Center of natural causes.
Penny was born Feb. 7, 1964, in Lincoln, the daughter of Milan Thornton and Nadine (Young) Thornton Bazzie. She was raised in Millinocket and graduated in 1982 from Stearns High School.
Shirley E. Porter
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amWINDHAM -- Shirley E. Porter, 75, of Windham died on June 7, 2011 at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Rumford on July 9, 1935, the daughter of Eva Fitzsimmons Spaulding of Mexico and the late Stanley Spaulding, who died in 2008.
Mrs. Porter attended and graduated from Mexico High School in 1953. After graduation, she worked various jobs in the Rumford and Mexico areas along with raising her children.
Bernard Joseph O’Connell Cruickshank
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amREGION -- Bernard (Barney) Joseph O’Connell Cruickshank, 90, died peacefully on June 4, 2011 at Leisureworld Tullamore where he loved the food and felt at home.
Barney was born Jan. 17, 1921 in England. Barney fought courageously in North Africa as a member of the British army.
Barney then became a chef for the famous Dorchester hotel in London, England. Barney’s journey changed directions and he became a Ballroom, Latin American and later Disco dance instructor. He was the undefeated Kent Olde Time Champion three years in a row.

Military Honors were conducted by the Maine Military Funeral Honors Program, Augusta.
Arrangements were under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
Gloria A. St. Cyr
Jun 10, 2011 12:00 amVancouver, WA -- Gloria A. St. Cyr, 83, passed away at her home in Vancouver, WA on May 5, 2011 with family by her side.
She was born on July 25, 1927 in Rumford to Mary and Stephen Gallant. Gloria attended Rumford schools and was a member of Stephens High School Class of 1945.
She was married to Alfred St. Cyr for 63 years. They made their home and raised their family in South Rumford until 1965 when job transfers the next few years sent them to Connecticut, New Hampshire, Virginia, and finally to Vancouver, WA in 1977.
Paul George Paradis
Jun 10, 2011 12:00 amAUGUSTA -– Paul George Paradis, 72, a resident of Main Street in Mexico, died on June 2, 2011 at the Maine Veterans Hospital in Togus, following a lingering illness. He had recently been moved from the Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury, MA where he had been a patient for the past month.
He was born April 30, 1939 in Auburn, the son of Joseph and Simone (Patry) Paradis. Paul was a 1958 graduate of Edward Little High School; after graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962.
Judy Blanchard
Jun 10, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -- Judy Blanchard, 52, died on June 3, 2011, surrounded by her family at the Rumford Hospital after a 15-year courageous battle with cancer. She was a resident of Kimball Avenue in Mexico.
Born in Rumford on January 18, 1959, she was a daughter of William and Hortence “Connie” (Reed) Blanchard. She attended schools in Rumford and Mexico.
She worked as a private duty care giver in the area.
