  • Vito F. Puiia

    AUBURN -– Vito F. Puiia, 96, of Franklin Street, Rumford, died on May 13, 2011 at the Hospice House, Auburn.

    He was born in Rumford on September 24, 1914, the son of Joseph and Giovanna (Vallone) Puiia. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1932.

    During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

    Vito owned and operated Puiia’s Shoe Repair Shop on Waldo Street in Rumford for many years until retirement.

  • Funeral services held for Nancy Martin

    RUMFORD -- A mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Nancy Martin was celebrated on April 8, 2011 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

    Fr. Philip Tracy was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server. Mark Belanger was the organist.

    Music selections during the mass were, Be Not Afraid, Wind Beneath My Wings, You Raise Me Up, and Fly Like a Bird.

  • Maude Davey Stanley

    RUMFORD -– Maude Davey Stanley, died peacefully at her residence on Piscataquis Street, Rumford on April 26, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was 103 years and ten months old.

  • Donald F. Hebert

    DIXFIELD -- Donald F. Hebert, 72, of Webb River Drive Dixfield, died on May 6, 2011 after a courageous battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

    He was the youngest son of the late Saul T. and Agnes Lanigan Hebert. Donald graduated from Dixfield High School in 1957.

    During his high school years, he excelled at baseball, hockey and football and was a member of the last six-man football team in the school’s history.

  • Thirza H. Towle

    AUBURN -– Thirza H. Towle, 94, of the Common Road in Dixfield, died on May 5, 2011 at the Hospice House in Auburn.

    She was born in Dixfield on April 18, 1917, a daughter of Verdell and Gertrude (Drown) Holman. Thirza was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield High School Class of 1935.

    She was employed as night supervisor at the Maplewood Lodge in Canton for many years, and later worked as a CNA at Dixfield Healthcare Center.

  • Theodore A. “Teddy” Leighton

    TOGUS -– Theodore A. “Teddy” Leighton, 62, of Cumberland Street, Rumford, died on May 2, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital, Togus.

    He was born in Rumford on August 18, 1948, a son of Harold and Melba (Philbrick) Leighton. He attended Mexico schools and received his G.E.D.

    He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

    Teddy was well known as a carpet layer and had worked for James Cantello and Rodney Canwell for many years.

  • Lisa Arsenault

    RUMFORD -- Lisa Arsenault, 45, of Bethel went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side.

    She was born in Rumford on August 26, 1965 a daughter of Ernest and Jeanne Arsenault. She attended Rumford schools and lived in the Rumford and Andover areas most of her life.

    Lisa spent her time watching NASCAR and was Jimmie Johnson’s biggest fan.

  • Committal service Wednesday for Pauline Blanchard

    RUMFORD -- A committal service for Pauline Blanchard, who died on December 24, 2010, will be held noon on Wednesday at St. John Cemetery.

    Arrangements are under the care of S.G. Thibault Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

  • Paul Raymond Gerard Allain

    MEXICO -- Paul Raymond Gerard Allain, 47, of Allston, MA, formerly of Mexico, ME, went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

    Paul was born on Oct. 3, 1963 in Danvers, MA. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1982.

    He moved to Allston where he resided with his best friend, Daniel Gasnick, and their beloved dog, Bionix, for the past 12 years.

    He enjoyed dancing and working in his garden. He loved life, his family and friends.

  • Milton G. “Papa” Gray

    AUBURN -– Milton G. “Papa” Gray, 73, of N. Jay, died on April 22, 2011 at the Hospice House surrounded by family.

    He was born, May 2, 1937, in Addison, the son of Clarence B. and Rose (Dorr) Gray.

    In 1962 he married Hazel Ashe. They began their family in N. Chelmsford, MA, where he was employed in the printing business.

    He moved his family to N. Jay in 1977 where he began his own fire wood business. He ran the business successfully for 23 years.
