Stanwood L. Pingree
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -– Stanwood L. Pingree of Andover passed away peacefully at Rumford Hospital on April 19, 2011 with his family by his side, after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on January 17, 1931 the son of Ellsworth and Sadie (Cole) Pingree. Stanwood was educated in Milton schools.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
Stanwood worked at the Oxford Paper Company on the No. 10 paper machine as well as the log room until his retirement in 1979.
Elizabeth Aphia Karkos
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amFARMINGTON –- Elizabeth Aphia Karkos, 91, of Wilton, died on April 15, 2011, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.
She was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Arthur B. and Florence (Bogardus) Cole. She graduated from Wilton Academy in 1937 and Westbrook College in 1939.
On Oct. 21, 1939, she married Harold Michael Karkos. He predeceased her in 2003.
Waman D. “Lucky” Hotham
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amBIDDEFORD -- Waman Dale Hotham, 64, died after a long illness and very courageous fight on April 17, 2011 at Southern Maine Medical Center.
Waman was born on Dec. 13, 1946 in Rumford to the late Helen (Kelley) Hotham and Gilbert Hotham of Rumford. Being born on Friday the 13th, his family quickly nicknamed him Lucky.
Dale T. Robbins
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amFARMINGTON -- Dale T. Robbins, 66, of Wilton, died on April 17, 2011, following an extended illness, "after the races", with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 6, 1944, in Turner, a son of Merrill T. and Virginia M. (Jordan) Robbins. He received his education in Livermore Falls schools.
He was employed for many years as a track engineer and foreman for Maine Central Railroad. On Feb. 13, 1993, he married Vickie Davis in Farmington.
Georgia Norene Hall
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amCANTON -– Georgia Norene Hall, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2011 at the Victorian Villa where she was lovingly cared for as a resident for many years.
She was born June 27, 1916 in Lang Plt., a daughter of Arthur and Winona (Bachelder) Myshrall. She attended schools at Flagstaff, Rangeley and Stratton.
At 18, Norene married Elwood (Alec) Huntoon. At 32, she divorced him and then met her second husband, Louis R. Hall.
Doris L. Putnum
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -– Doris L. Putnum, 99, of South Rumford, died on April 21, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital.
She was born in Rumford on July 6, 1911, the daughter of Arthur and Agnes (Skinner) Locke. Doris graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1929. She graduated from the Farmington State Normal School in Farmington, Class of 1931 with her degree in education. She received Bachelors degree in education from Boston University (BU) in 1944.
Robert N. “Dub” Belanger
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -– Robert N. “Dub” Belanger, 86, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died on April 20, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital.
He was born in Rumford on May 27, 1924, a son of Omer and Roseann (LeVasseur) Belanger. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1942.
He served n the US Army as a Tech 4 during WWII as a Tech 4 from 1943-1946.
He had worked for Mead Paper Company in Rumford in the Lab until his retirement in 1986.
Reginald J. “Reg” Breau
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amLEWISTON -- Reginald J. “Reg” Breau, 63, of High Street, Rumford, died on April 23, 2011 at the Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side.
He was born in Rumford on February 11, 1948, a son of James and Yvette (Gaudet) Breau. He graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1968.
Reg worked for Sam Wade as a carpenter and also at Sunday River. He was a member of the Rumford Falls Aerie, #1248, F.O.E. He was an avid bird watcher and loved his cat, Tara.
Orson West “Orka” Storer
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amDIXFIELD -- Orson West “Orka” Storer, 77, of Dixfield, died peacefully at his home in Dixfield on April 19, 2011.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1933 in Weld, a son of Cola and Esther Storer. He attended Weld schools and went on to serve in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
He worked for many years in the woods as a logger and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes with his family and friends. He will be remembered by his friends as the mayor of the West Brook Road.
Ruth M. Karpen
Apr 29, 2011 12:00 amRUMFORD -– Ruth M. Karpen, 85, peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 17, 2011 at her residence with family members by her side.
Ruth was born in Rumford on May 10, 1925, the daughter of Cecil and Christie (Stevens) Mahoney. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford.
She married Anthony Karpen, Jr. on April 2, 1946 and was married for 59 years until the time of his death in 2005.
