  • Funeral services held for Sylvina “Syl” (DesRoches) Mahar

    RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Sylvina “Syl” (DesRoches) Mahar was celebrated on March 3, 2011 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

    Fr. James Martel was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server. Mark Belanger was the organist.

    The Old Testament was proclaimed by Barbara Doherty. The New Testament was proclaimed by Raymond Doherty, Jr. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Michelle Belanger and Jeannine Law. Personal reflections were shared by her daughter, Elizabeth Doherty.

  • Faye D. Fenstermacher

    AUBURN -- Faye D. Fenstermacher, 93, passed away on March 8, 2011 in Clover Manor.

    She was the widow of Henry W. Fenstermacher. 

    She is survived by a son, Todd E. Fenstermacher and his wife, Mary W. of Peru; a sister, Muriel Pieper  of Phoenix,

    AZ; five grandchildren, April, Angela, Abigail, Aaron, Arik; and four great-grandchildren.

    Services will be held April 2, 2011 at Salem United Methodist Church in Allentown, PA, her home of 73 years prior to moving to Maine in 2006.

  • Albert J. Girouard

    RUMFORD -– Albert J. Girouard, 104, formerly of Roxbury, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Rumford Community Home.

    He was born in Mexico on November 3, 1906, the son of Fredrick and Eugenie (Googin) Girouard. He had attended Mexico Schools.

    For many years, he was a self employed woodsman, carpenter and painter until retirement in 1971. He was a Communicant of St. Athanasius–St. John Church.

  • Henry A. McCleary

    PORTSMOUTH, NH -- Henry A. McCleary, 80, died peacefully on March 12, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

    Born in Rumford on January 17, 1931 he was the son of Leah (Cormier) McCleary and the late Henry A. McCleary.

    Henry retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of faithful and honorable service. He later attended Nathaniel Hawthorne College where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and in 1988 retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

  • Shawn Bedford Daley

    RUMFORD -- Shawn Bedford Daley, 41, died on February 28, 2011 at his residence on Maine Avenue, Rumford.

    He was born in Homestead, FL on March 30, 1969, the son of Hugh G. Daley. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

    Shawn was employed as a maintenance man for Peter and Becky Robichaud in Rumford for many years.

    He had attended the Dixfield Congregational Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his family.

  • June A. Merchant

    RUMFORD -- June A. Merchant, 82, of Rt. 108 died on March 11, 2011 at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness, with her loving family at her side.

    She was born in Dixfield on October 28, 1928, a daughter of Erroll and Emma (Kidder) Hodge.

    June was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield High School Class of 1947.

    She was employed for many years with Stowell-McGregor in Dixfield and later for Foster Manufacturing.

  • Laura Mae Halacy

    NORWAY -– Laura Mae Halacy, 94, of the Milton Road, Milton Township, died on March 9, 2011 at the Norway Living Center, with her loving family by her side.

    She was born in Norway on March 3, 1917, the daughter of Nathan and Grace (Bean) Ethridge. She graduated from Norway High School Class of 1935.

    Laura enjoyed camping, gardening, knitting and spending time with her family. For a few years, she had worked at the Bethel IGA Store. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories about the old days.

  • Michael Rae Mawhinney

    BOSTON, MA -- Michael Rae Mawhinney, 56, died on complications from severe lung disease on March 6, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, with his family by his side.

    Born on Feb. 11, 1955, he was the son of David E. Mawhinney and Joyce Rumley Mawhinney Peters. He graduated from Mexico High School.

  • Dylan Robert Levesque

    FORT KENT -- Dylan Robert Levesque unexpectedly went to be with our Lord on March 8, 2011.

    He was born in Fort Kent on July 1, 2010, the son of Lucas and Amy (Young) Levesque.

    He is survived by his parents and his big sister, Abby Levesque, all of Frenchville; maternal grandparents, Robert

    and Anne Young of Mexico; paternal grandparents, Bert and Ann Levesque, and Jean and Paul Nadeau, all of Fort Kent; one great-paternal grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Nadeau of Eagle Lake; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

  • Alice V. Cox Wilson

    SEYMOUR, IN -– Alice V. Cox Wilson, 78, of Seymour, IN and formerly of Andover, ME, went to be with her Lord on February 25, 2011 at the Seymour Medical Center.

    She was born in East Concord, NH on November 15, 1932, the daughter of Jesse and Helen (Lord) Riendeau. She had attended schools in New Hampshire and Maine and received her GED at Telstar Regional High School in Bethel.
