  • Funeral services held for Alice V. Cox Wilson

    RUMFORD -- A celebration of life was conducted for Alice V. Cox Wilson on March 4, 2011 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home.

    Interment in the spring will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2011 at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Andover, with Pastor David Garnett officiating.

  • Funeral services held for David L. Hodgkins

    RUMFORD -- Funeral services for David L. Hodgkins of Roxbury, Maine were conducted on February 26, 2011 at the

    Meader & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Lawrence Shaw officiating.

    Music selections were: “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

    Military Honors were provided by the Maine Military Funeral Honors program from Augusta.

    A reception followed at the Rumford First Baptist Church.

  • Funeral services held for Mabel A. Perry

    RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Mabel A. Perry was celebrated on February 26, 2011 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

    Fr. Phil Tracy was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server.

    The Old Testament was proclaimed by Sara Perry. The New Testament was proclaimed by Jerry Cyr. Personal reflections were shared by Elizabeth Fuller. The Offertory Gifts were brought to the altar by LeeAnn Gross and Melanie Blouin.

    To the Editor:

    I wish to thank Mr. Buccina for his continued concern over wind turbines in Rumford and Mr. Volkernick for his desire to present choices in wind options to the voters in June.

  • The Basket Lady

    In the Good Humor Town, it feels like we’re just going to breeze right through the month of March. Pun intended.

    As children out on the playground, we’d say, “March comes in like a lion but goes out like a lamb.”

    Mrs. Tate, my fourth grade teacher, would read us a story after lunch about a monkey named Curious George who lost his cap because a blustery wind blew it away.

  • Funeral services held for Mabel A. Perry

    RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Mabel A. Perry was celebrated on February 26, 2011 at Parish of the Holy Savior.

  • Warren K. Oakes

    AUBURN -– Warren K. Oakes, 59, died on March 1, 2011 at his residence on Roak Street, Auburn.

    He was born in Mexico, ME on July 17, 1951, a son of Walter and Gloria (Kimball) Oakes. He graduated from Dixfield High School Class of 1969 and Colby College Class of 1973.

    Warren worked at TD Banknorth as an interpreter.

    He was a member of the International Lilacs Society and enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening, and spoke five languages.

  • Funeral services held for David L. Hodgkins

    RUMFORD -- Funeral services for David L. Hodgkins of Roxbury, Maine were conducted on February 26, 2011 at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Lawrence Shaw officiating.

  • Marguerite M. “Maggie” “Git” Gaudet

    RUMFORD -– Marguerite M. “Maggie” “Git” Gaudet, 85, of Grandview Circle, Mexico, died on March 5, 2011 at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness.

    She was born in Mexico on November 10, 1925, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Arsenault) Gaudet. Maggie attended St. Theresa’s School and Mexico High School.

    She was employed for 45 years with Oxford Paper Co., starting in the finishing department and retired as a process control tester.

  • Funeral services held for Ervin Richard “Dickie” Brown

    WOODSTOCK -- Funeral services for Ervin Richard “Dickie” Brown, of Rumford Center, were conducted on February 25, 2011 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Perkins Valley Road, with Elder Greg Dennison officiating.

    Organist was Randy Gladden. Music selection was Amazing Grace.

    Special music “Let My Words be Few” was sung by Michael and Timothy Brown. A special slide show was presented including music “When I Close My Eyes,” “I Believe,” and “I’m Going to Love You Forever.”
