  • The value of donated bottles

    To the Editor:

On March 30, an Easter Egg Hunt and Social was held at the Carthage Town Office.

There were many children and adults that turned out for this event this year! All had a good time of hunting for eggs and socializing with light snacks/drinks for everyone to enjoy .

We would like to say thank you to everyone that helped, brought food or donated bottles for the event.

The Carthage Events sponsored this event, as well as the Halloween and Christmas events each year.

  • Post 24 Commander’s Corner

On April 17, American Legion Post 24 hosted the installation of Post 100 (Dixfield), Post 24 (Rumford) and District 5 (Oxford County) 2013-2014 officers. We were honored to have National Executive Committee Member Alternate Brenda Dearborn, Department 1st Vice John Hargreaves and Lester Prue as the installing team for this event. The night was well attended by area members of the American Legion family. Post 24, Rumford is still looking for someone to fill the Finance Officer’s position. Anyone interested please contact the Post Commander at 369-0831.

  • New commander installed at Post 24

RUMFORD -- As the new commander for Napoleon-Ouellette American Legion Post 24, Tricia Thurston already has an agenda in mind for her leadership role.

"When members become officers, they try to find a focus to support with. I have a few; obviously I can't do it by myself. We definitely need people to volunteer to make his happen. I would like to find ways to support the Veterans Home in South Paris, educate female veterans on what's out there for them and what Togus has to offer, and supporting local veterans and their families," noted Thurston.

  • Beginning of the new "norm"

    To the Editor:

Governor LePage sent a letter to town officials concerning a proposal to stop revenue sharing funds from the state to the municipalities.

In it he requests and I quote: “It is easy to find fault and hard to find solutions. I welcome any suggestions town officials have to cut elsewhere in the state budget, but it is time for everyone to set complaints aside and offer solutions. If you have serious ideas for consideration, please do not hesitate to contact my office."

  • Chamber Chatter

The River Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner & Awards Banquet was a great success! The food once again provided by 49 Franklin was excellent.

The recipients of this year’s awards were gracious, appreciative and some were quite emotional. Thanks to Scot from 49 Franklin for stepping in as our photographer to catch all the great moments. Thanks from all of us at RVCC to the many businesses and guests that were able to attend to make it a wonderful evening.

  • Thanks for help with Island cleanup

    To the Editor:

Envision Rumford! thanks everyone who made the first annual Island Spring Cleaning held on April 27, which would not have been possible without the many volunteer hours put in by members of Rotary and the Holy Savior Youth Ministry.

  • Thanks for your support

    To the Editor:

Just a little note to express a heart filled thank you for the gatherings on March 17th and April 13th.

The outpouring of support from friends, family, townsfolk from near and far was truly incredible. An enormous thanks to all businesses and individuals who donated items for the live auction, there wouldn’t have been one without your generosity.

Special thanks to everyone involved with the sleigh ride, live auction, concert and spaghetti dinner. We never realized how blessed we truly are. We are forever grateful to each and every one of you.

  • American Legion Post 100 news

Members, I'm writing this news letter to let all veterans of this area, Post 100 that you need to get your dues caught up.

The American Legion from National, to Department to the Post are going through growing pains. We not only need you older veterans to come back to the meetings and functions but we need all the new veterans out there to come and enjoy the family concepts that the Legion has.
