Don't trust city hall
Feb 01, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Do you worry about paying the bills? Do you hope the costs of necessities and taxes won’t go any higher? Do you have the feeling that those that impose taxes on you only care about their own salvation?
We, the people, are looked upon as purse fillers to those who intend to pull the purse strings. Believe it or not, a local government associate worker made that very comment to me. Would you call such a person a taxpayer advocate?

First , I want to say , that I have many friends and acquaintances throughout the SAD 44 area as do all Andover folks. So the fact that Andover wishes to leave SAD 44 is not an us vs. them effort.
The Basket Lady
Feb 01, 2013 12:00 amIn the Good Humor Town, folks are pushing their way through an uncertain economy, a vicious flu season, and a bitterly cold January; so to brighten things up; Basket Lady came across a poem composed by an anonymous author that imparts a gentle wisdom about The Way to a Happy New Year.
To leave the old with a burst of song;
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the things that bind you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that’s past;
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worth- while of the days grown old;
Sincere appreciation

The brief January thaw we recently experienced quickly changed into one of the coldest spells so far this winter. Add the cruel wind and going outside for any reason is a good reason to shiver. Bone-chilling cold is all I can think of to call it.
It’s at such times that hot food, in whatever form, is important to heat up our insides. Soups and stews are crucial parts of our diets during the winter, of course, but hot beverages can also make us feel more comfortable.

Peru taxpayers: All five selectmen are now going to be voted on for a recall.
If you choose to sign a petition, regardless which petition, please know the facts behind them. If you are unsure, you should never have signed them. Instead, you should go to the selectmen's meetings every Monday at 6 p.m. and see for yourself, or get a copy of the minutes, or better yet, listen to the meeting because they are all audio recorded and should be available.
