My maternal great-grandmother has for nearly all of my life been a source of inspiration and admiration, a very real influence although she died years before my birth.
She was born at Ronneby, Sweden, on the Baltic Sea, and gained passage to the U.S. as an indentured servant at about the age of 16.

The Basket Lady
Jan 04, 2013 12:00 amBasket Lady wants to wish everyone a safe, healthy, happy and prosperous New Year filled with abundant joy and kindness.
What’s really amazing if you stop to think about it, and I would guess that most of us don’t, the turning of a new year is about how the earth revolves around the nearest star in the universe -- the sun, which is 93 million miles away from the earth; and the amazing part to ponder is that the earth turns precisely as it should around the sun and has done so for not only in anyone’s lifetime, but over millions of years.

Jan 04, 2013 12:00 amTo the Editor:
We were born during the depression and became country school children during WWII, while attending Riverview School, two miles west of Marshfield, WI. About the age of 80 years now, we have many memories of those days just the same.

I would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone that believed in the possibility of something greater for our friends in Nicaragua.
We were very busy while there and through our collaborative efforts we provided routine well being care and advanced medical surgeries for those in need. We facilitated “Hands Only” CPR awareness workshops, sudden cardiac arrest awareness classes, and automated external defibrillator trainings for over 200 doctors, nurses, and firefighters.

I am always amused by "Government Double-Speak."
You know, when something presented to you is actually something else entirely. Only certain people can master this technique and you will find it mainly from those who are or have been an associated worker of the government.
