The Basket Lady
Dec 28, 2012 12:00 amAnother year is almost here and as soon as one ends another begins and usually folks are making plans to lose weight, exercise more, worry less and make more money.
Basket Lady isn’t opposed to any of those things as good health, prosperity, and peace of mind are our God-given birth rights.
An individual that I have long admired, the true master of martial arts, Bruce Lee, lived his life this way -- “the key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.”
Inaction a waste of Peru money
Dec 28, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
What is going on at the Peru selectmen? A couple selectmen are bound to cause the town to spend lots of money on frivolous law suits in my opinion. Why?
Someone wants to sue the town and then wants the town to pay their lawyer expenses. Is this having your candy and eating it, too? Seems like this is causing more problems for this town than it needs. Our selectmen should be defending this town not digging their feet in and causing this town to waste money.
Thanking members of AARP chapters
Dec 28, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I am writing this letter to thank the members of AARP’s six chapters here in Maine.
Maine is number one in all of New England when it comes to food insecurity. Especially during the winter months many in our state grapple with keeping food on the table. AARP’s six chapters made an extraordinary effort to help by hosting local food drives that support food pantries and other programs such as Meals on Wheels.
Post 100 Commander's Corner
Dec 28, 2012 12:00 amIt kinda makes me think that we should be passing on a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our veterans who are still deployed.
To all of you who are home the same goes for you. Welcome home and may your holidays be very joyful. All of you who are older and have seen the hardships of war or service time, let's get things done for all the others. Dues are supposed to be paid by December 31. Let's show them that we can and are proud to have them join the best organization in the U.S.A.
Strengthening our economy in the New Year
Dec 28, 2012 12:00 amSome of you may know me already, but for those who don’t, I am John Patrick and I represent Oxford County in the Maine Senate. I am honored and blessed to have received the support of our community, and I look forward to my second term as your Senator. For the next two years, I will be keeping you up to date on what is happening at the State House through this column, my e-mail newsletter, and community meetings.

Thanks for supporting Festival of Trees
Dec 21, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
The Rumford Performing Arts Committee would like to thank everyone that supported us by either sponsoring a tree, performing on stage or did some behind the scenes work. We also want to thank everyone that attended our show. Without your support everything else would be for nothing.

With Christmas sneaking up on us so fast, the days are dwindling to get presents for everyone on our lists. Sometimes, it’s the small gifts that create the most problems - what to get for a teacher, postman, colleague, friend, or someone who has done something nice for us during the year.
And often times, “things” aren’t important. As they say, it’s the thought that counts.
