Best people in the world

I would like to say, very sincerely, that there are some of the best people in the world living in the small towns of the Rumford area.
I would like to say, thank you.

As Santa was preparing for his visit to the Festival of Trees he realized how nice it would be if at the Festival of Trees a tree was decorated with gifts from the community and the tree and all would be donated to a needy family!
He thought, we will call it the "The Community Giving Tree!" Then it dawned on him the Rumford Group Home had several homeless families there and who better in need of uplifting them!
Appreciation for support
Dec 21, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I am writing this in deep heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support I have received since the recent surgery which nearly claimed my life.
To the Rumford Hospital Operating Room staff, Respiratory Department, I.C.U. staff, and all of the other who answered the call during my crisis, I have always been so proud to call you my co-workers. Now I find myself at a loss for words to describe my feelings.
Think of our heroes

This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
A Soldiers Christmas Poem

He lived all alone,

Buyers of "the product"
Dec 14, 2012 12:00 amTo the Editor:
A lot can be said about opportunity. The nature of capitalism is to fully use opportunity to sustain itself. A government can use opportunity to sustain itself just as an entrepreneur uses opportunity to offer his products and services to the people.
The difference is the government can offer and sustain a product or service whether it is useful or not, or even welcomed by the buyer or not. The entrepreneur can not, if his product or service has no buyers, he sinks.
Hope for reasonable solution

Neither Social Security nor Medicare should be used in last-minute budget deals that cut benefits for seniors to reduce the deficit. With the fiscal cliff discussions continuing in Washington, I hope Congress will work toward responsible solutions that strengthen both programs for current and future generations.
