Opinion

  • Support for Norine Clarke

    To the Editor:

Being a selectman is more than a one-issue job. It requires a knowledgeable person who can sensibly address many problems as they arise.

Until quite recently, Dixfield citizens were lucky to have such a person, one of our own business owners. Norine Clarke served on the finance committee for over 30 years, organized the economic development committee, and ably worked as a selectman.

She leaves her imprint throughout the town, maintaining projects like the annual market festival and raising the funds for Bullrock.

  • Support for Matt Peterson

    To the Editor:

Matt Peterson, state representative from District 92, is running for re-election.

As a college student nearing graduation, I am concerned with the future of our great state, and the leaders we need to ensure a prosperous one. It’s time to reject the notion of ‘team-based’ politics, and elect people concerned with getting the best ideas through, regardless of affiliation; this person is Matt.

  • Miles for Maddie thank you

    To the Editor:

Six months ago, I started training to run the ING Hartford Marathon in Hartford, Connecticut to raise money for a childhood friend and her family who have a special needs child, Maddie.

They needed to install an elevator in their house to get her up and downstairs and insurance was not going to cover it.

On October 13, I started and finished the 26.2-mile course, and every mile was for Maddie. I would like to thank everyone who helped make this day a success. Thank you Matt, Missy, and Mason Hammond for your blessings to raise money for Maddie.

  • Support for Peterson

    To the Editor:

It is important that we are represented in Augusta by an individual who has already proven his honesty, integrity and commitment. We have a state representative who is a true voice for those he represents. District 92 State Representative Matt Peterson knows he is in Augusta to represent our needs not the dictates of government or special interests.

He understands there are times when party politics need to be put aside. He has been and will continue to roll up his sleeves and do the things needed to get this state and our region moving forward.

  • Please vote on Nov. 6

    To the Editor:

The election for a selectperson gives you two choices, one for a person who has experience on the board, plus experience on the Finance Committee.

The other is a voice of the wind opponents. They also plan to change the style of government, which has operated well for years.

That move puts the town back by more than 30 years.

Can you picture Dixfield operating like some of our close neighbors? Please vote on Nov. 6; the choice is yours.

    Ralph E. Clarke,

    Dixfield

  • Support for Sheryl Briggs

    To the Editor:

Sheryl Briggs is my wife, a mother, and grandmother. She has also been your voice and had your backs while being your state representative for Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Mexico and Peru.

She's been working very hard 24/7 to support all her towns in the river valley…from boat launches to dams, from education to veterans, and even getting signs up on the Maine Turnpike to create business for Black Mountain of Maine. Oh, and let us not forget, all the people in the River Valley!

  • Peru politics and the upcoming vote

    To the Editor:

The outcome in Peru’s June referendum to change the selectmen’s secretary position from appointed to elected and limit the hours to no more than 30 is a step backward for the town. But those who scream the loudest and be most hateful were heard - even though accomplished through lies.

This charade began with your efforts to make it so that town employees could not also serve as selectmen and graduated to your crusade to put me out of a job.

  • Support for Sheryl Briggs

    To the Editor:
I support Sheryl Briggs in her candidacy for District 93. She has served three terms and is eager to work tirelessly for her constituents in Augusta.
I support Sheryl for her strong work ethics and top efficiency. She has been the driving force in accomplishing a task for us that neither the town nor the state wanted to negotiate. She solved a problem we had with a deteriorating wall and rail. This rail had been installed 50 years ago by the state in the front of our home.

  • About windpower issue in Dixfield

    To the Editor:

Questions continue to be raised in an effort to prolong the issue of windpower in Dixfield. The question was asked of me, “When do we get a chance to vote?”

November 6 is that chance. No, the current ordinance is not perfect but it was thoroughly vetted by lawyers last year and was found to be more complete than most and adequately covered the necessary areas. Another lawyer has now looked at it and decided that there are changes that need to be made.

  • Support for Dave Duguay

    To the Editor:

As we wind down towards election day, I wanted to share my opinion with my fellow voters here in Oxford County.

Current Commissioner from the River Valley region Dave Duguay is running for re-election.

For those of you who are familiar with Dave's record of public service I need not say more. However for those who are not familiar with Commissioner Duguay.
