Why is Gov. LePage going after local control?
Nov 04, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Local governments are Maine’s most efficient, budget conscious and fiscally responsible spenders of taxpayers’ money.
That is because they are closest to the people they serve and the taxpayers who pony up the spending money. The governance structure of local towns is responsive, open and designed to involve everyone. Town meetings are time-honored traditions in Maine because they just make sense.
A yes vote on Question One
Nov 04, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I am writing to encourage your readers to step up and restore Mainers' right to register to vote on Election Day by voting "yes" on Question One.
Ending this right, which has been in place for 38 years, will make it harder for people to exercise their right to vote. In 2008, over 50,000 eligible voters would have been turned away at the polls if not for same day registration.
The Basket Lady
Nov 04, 2011 12:00 amIn Auburn, recently, The Perfect Basket; a new business in town had a grand opening and naturally, the Basket Lady is thrilled to have another basket ally.
A lady in Lewiston that goes by the moniker, “The Basket Case,” received an award from the Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce for her creative gift baskets and for her community altruism.
This afternoon, as I walked past the Holy Savior Elementary School, a half-dozen or so wicker baskets filled with all sorts of goodies lined the window sill in one of the classrooms.
Thanks for your help!

On the afternoon of Sept. 26, I had one of the biggest scares of my life.
We live approximately a mile at the end of a dead end road off Rt. 17. My horse, who I had just taken camping for four days with my girlfriend and her horse, was unpacking at the barn.
He was grazing at my lawn as he does and let out a very loud whinny and before I could get to him, he was gone.
Running after him was not an option. I knew I had to get in my vehicle and go after him, going slow, thinking he was going to come out of a driveway or side road.

History lesson about American Legion
Nov 04, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Did you know that the American Legion was started back in 1919 for the Veterans of the Wars?
It was established so the veterans would have a place to gather and enjoy one another’s company and to help veterans find and receive the proper care they needed.
Around 1923, the Ladies Auxiliary was set into motion to help their Veterans. They do wondrous work but somewhere along the line each has forgotten their objective.
Reader urges approval of Rumford wind ordinance
Nov 04, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I hope the Rumford residents will come to the polls to vote "yes" to approve the newly developed Rumford wind energy ordinance, which was written and approved by the selectmen with proper consideration for all of the stakeholders.
I have reviewed and studied the ordinance to sense the potential affects on the landowners near the proposed site, the wind developer and the general Rumford citizens.

A "yes" vote for the Rumford wind ordinance
Oct 28, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
No matter if you like industrial wind or you do not, you must vote "yes" on November 8th for the Rumford Wind Ordinance.
The Rumford select board was very thorough in developing a balanced ordinance that both protects the health and well being of the town while allowing an industrial wind developer to consider Rumford.
If you are for industrial wind, a yes vote will allow a developer to come to Rumford but under the terms of the town and not the weak state model. If you are against wind, a yes vote will control a wind development to protect all of us.
Unite or die!

It hit me the other day that as a nation we are in grave danger of losing our liberty.
George Washington warned Americans that we are in danger of losing this nation and our liberties through the gangrene of political faction (i.e., Republicans and Democrats) and that through those factions politics will deprive us of all we have fought for.
