Vote "no" to support Andover's future
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
There has been a looming fear in Andover these past weeks, as we face the question of death to our “hidden gem” of a community.
Vote “no” to keep local education and Andover Elementary
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
How would you like $10,000 towards your child’s college or technical school education from a local endowment? How do you get it?
Want your elementary child to have a healthy breakfast and local foodslunch provided at no cost through local contributions? Sounds good, not packing lunches or worrying about if they ate enough for breakfast.
Do you enjoy winter activities and want your k-5 child to have the benefits of Cross-Country skiing outside the school house door for health & fitness?
Position statement on the Tyler Road
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
The Tyler Road is in Mason Township. Its creation as a public road can be traced to 1803.
Records of the road are also found in town documents following incorporation of the Town of Mason in 1843.
Deeds describing properties along the road consistently reference the road as a town way.
When Mason de-organized in 1935, jurisdiction over the road passed to Oxford County.
What happened to freedom of speech?
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Townsfolk of Canton: I want to start by pointing something out to the parents of young people in this town.
The old building that is owned by the town located in the intersection of 140 and 108 is an accident waiting to happen. This building is not boarded up allowing complete access to the inside were the roof is either collapsing, or it has built in skylights and there is also a huge beam approximately 3x3 feet that appears to be broken in half and hangs by what looks like a chain and an electrical cord from the aforementioned roof.
Tribute to Matt Peterson
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
If you have not read as yet the article in our local newspaper, written by our legislator, Matt Peterson, you are missing out on up front, in your face information that will positively impress you.
His stance is so rigid and sensible as to defy any negative criticism from any party member.
Presently taking on the state to recertify boxing once again is exciting and worthwhile, he has managed to gather details to an acceptable form for the state to consider that their rejection will certainly be questionable at best.
A special thank you
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
On behalf of my family -- husband Dennis; son James and wife, Jenn; granddaughter Catherine Farrell; and daughter Kelly and special friend, Howard Jones.
I would like to thank everyone who came to Thibault's to help us celebrate my mother's (Anita Reynolds) life.
There's a lot to be said, coming from a small area (Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield), where you can develop so many dear friends.
I would also like to thank everyone who donated food, sent flowers and made donations in my mother's memory.
The rock at Howard Pond
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Pam Puiia's letter about the rock and her concern about Hanover's tax money being spent over the rock is obsolutely correct.
The rock is in the middle of the town road. The motorists want it gone. The planning board wants it gone. The code
enforcement officer wants it gone. The road crew wants it out of the way. I plowed the driveway last winter and it sure was in the way of plowing.
The rock lovers don't realize that the rock had already lost its mystic and would look even more silly with a black top drive on both sides.
Protecting my land
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
They say, here in Maine, an individual’s property right could never be infringed upon by government-backed bureaucratic conglomerates.
Well, what a slap in my face it was when I found all my “No Trespassing" signs had disappeared and had been replaced with public recreational trail signage.
I was given no warning this was going to happen. My very rights as a landowner trampled on by someone who considers the laws of this state insignificant to his own interests.
Thanks for supporting Project Graduation
Jun 17, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
The Dirigo Class of 2011 would like to thank the businesses and organizations for contributing toward their Project
Graduation, which took place at the Waterville Champions Fitness Center on June 3 and was a very memorable evening for the graduates.
There were games, door prizes, music and dance, and everyone enjoyed the fascinsating talents of Kovacs the Hypnotist.
The event kept the students busy, and safe, all night long.
