County Commissioners to begin review
Jul 29, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Following the resignation of EMA Director Scott Parker, the County Commissioners will begin a 90-day review of the agency’s operations, with an eye toward gaining cost efficiencies and increasing synchronization of county efforts with municipalities.
The Commissioners are also considering formation of an EMA policy committee, to be comprised of municipal public safety officials.

Jul 29, 2011 12:00 am“Good morning, kind citizens of the River Valley!” Let’s see what grand adventure life will gift us with today.
For starters, I’m enjoying a delicious cup of instant Dandelion coffee. I can imagine what some of you may be thinking right about now. Dandy, what? Aren’t dandelions those pesky little yellow flowers that overrun the yard each spring? You can get a cup of coffee out of that weed?
Grateful for all your caring

The family of Lee Lawlor would like to sincerely thank you for your fond remembrance of Lee.
We greatly appreciated the outpouring of love, support, mass cards, flowers and prayers during our great time of sorrow. Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the Rumford Community Home in memory of Lee.

Jul 22, 2011 12:00 amNow that the Fourth of July festivities are over it is time to reflect on the event and its preparation. From all reports, the afternoon and evening activities culminating with the fireworks display (provided by Atlas PyroVision) went really well.
Let me not forget

After my Maine Labor Union mural letters to the Times, one might think I do not like salaried people whom I worked for in the mill.
That is not true.
Let’s begin with Jim Law, who rehired me after I had a very sketchy work record. I was able to live a good life in Rumford because of Mr. Law. Plus, Mr. Law dealt with a difficult work problem I had in an intelligent way that I shall never forget. He has my undying respect.
Voice of the people
Jul 22, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Voices of the people, from all over the River Valley, echo throughout my mind, haunting me, taunting me and giving me will to stand up and exercise my right to confront government when their actions are used to quell and ignore fellow citizens.
I hear you, I visit you at home, I read you on Facebook, I listen to you at public gatherings, I have received your phone calls. My mission is to bring your concerns and demands to the decision makers running our communities.

Jul 22, 2011 12:00 amIn the Good Humor Town, a light thought or two to ponder.
A cool July evening, invited me to come out and take a stroll in the moonlight; and as I walked across the Veteran’s Bridge in Mexico, a rather plump moon appeared to fill up the whole sky with its dazzling display of yellows and oranges.
I could just imagine reaching up and touching the moon. I wanted to, anyway.
Somehow in the midst of drinking in the glowing moon light, I thought about our neighbor, George Garon, a strong-willed man and friend who “passed away” on Independence Day.
Mexico, what were you thinking?

First, I never write letters to the editor, but I consider Greg Arsenault a good friend of mine and I will not stay quiet on this issue. I have know Greg since I moved to this area 20 years ago.
Greg is one of the most dedicated persons I know. He has dedicated his life as the Mexico recreation director and has done a lot to get activities to the recreation park and the recreation building and has supported them all.
Thanks for your help and prayers

I would like to thank everyone for their help and prayers for my wife, Betty, during her recent stay at CMMC in Lewiston.
I know many traveled a long distance to spend time with her and Betty appreciated each and every visitor. I thank everyone who provided meals and goodies to those at home in Andover while I stayed in Lewiston at the Arbor House.

This morning in the Sun Journal I read "Social Security checks in doubt." Why whenever cuts are made, it's always to the less fortunate?
Cuts in Social Security will affect hospital, doctors and nursing homes and assisted living. I have three siblings in some of these places.
Why can't senators and representatives, and the President, give back some? They have more than they need and don't think of the people they serve first.
Seniors are the population that's in a situation that without that check most of us have nothing else.
