Town Charter does not impede progress
Jun 10, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
In the previous edition of the Rumford Falls Times, it was expressed that the town's acceptance of a grant violates the Town Charter.
This is not accurate. Our Town Charter has often been accused of getting in the way of progress, but too often those who encounter a roadblock suggest doing away with the Town Charter rather than seeking a solution.
A "no" vote on wind ordinance
Jun 10, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
As we approach the vote on the proposed wind ordinance, let’s do a quick Q&A about wind power:
1. Q: Will wind turbines bring us jobs?
Make an informed decision
Jun 05, 2011 6:15 pmTo the Editor:
We are faced with making a choice to accept or not accept a wind power ordinance at our upcoming election in June.
I would urge you to vote "no" to not accept this proposed wind ordinance. While wind power is an option to held alleviate our dependency upon fossil fuels, it is proven not to be an efficient way to overcome that dependency.
Thanks for supporting benefit

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all our friends and family who contributed in one way or another to Pam Thompson Redstone's benefit.
It was a huge success due to your generosity. This is something we will never forget and will be forever grateful for.
A special thank you to Janet Brennick for orgnaizing the benefit, the Hooligans for donating their talent and time, the Lewiston House of Pizza for the sauce and meatballs, and Black Mountain for the use of the lodge.
God bless you all.
Pam and Ben Redstone,
The Basket Lady

I, for one, would like to say “thank you” to the men and women who have served valiantly on foreign lands away from loved ones without wavering in their resolve.
Memorial Day is a time of personal reflection for many of us in a variety of ways; maybe the death of a spouse, grandparent, or a child.
Maybe the loss of a job, a beloved pet or a dear friend. In any case, the memories of those who have gone on before us, still linger in our hearts.
Wind energy In Rumford is a bad idea
Jun 03, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
Please contact your Rumford Officials to request a responsible stop to their activities to expedite Wind Energy Facilities on our scenic mountaintops.
It is not a responsible financial or environmental decision. Let’s wait to review the Roxbury experience. What’s the rush? Who wins by rushing? (Only First Wind LLC).
The Case before the Public: The First Wind LLC has proposed to steal the Rumford mountaintops for substantial profit with questionable benefits for Rumford. First Wind’s credibility needs scrutiny.
Many, many thanks

How do I say thank you to so many people? I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the support I have had for the last three months.
The cards, calls, food and money just being there. Many thanks to the Dixfield Rumford AA group, Grace Baptist Church, Dixfield "Church on the Hill," and our family and friends.
Between the deaths and sickness over the last three months, the love and prayers are appreciated more than you will ever know.
Keep the prayers coming. Hugh is still in the hospital and will be for a long time.

Complaint about the Swain Road
Jun 03, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
On May 23 as I was heading to work, I saw a sign that read "Your Taxes."
I thought how true it it. I'm talking about the road conditions on Swain Road. You have to be a NASCAR driver to avoid all the sink holes and pot holes there are, especially the multiple pot holes at the end of a neighbor's driveway, and that's where I saw this sign.
Traits of bullies
Jun 03, 2011 12:00 amTo the Editor:
I have read many letters to the editor over the past few years regarding wind power, have visited sites in Maine and Pennsylvania, where wind power is in use, and spoken to residents in those areas.
Added to my own research, my opinion is quite different from that of the most wordy letter writers.
The common denominators amongst the anti-wind letter writes seem to be superiority complexes and accusatory natures. To my aged eyes, those are traits of bullies and those whose motives are often less than pure.
Update From Augusta
Jun 03, 2011 12:00 amOne of the most interesting discussions of the week was a floor debate on amending the Maine Constitution to reduce the size of the Maine House of Representatives.
As you may imagine, the debate was heated and extensive as views were freely exchanged. It’s never easy for a room full of politicians to agree, but especially if they are talking about possible changes to their own status. Reducing the number of representatives looks like a big game of musical chairs to some of my colleagues.
