The selectmen in the Town of Peru have failed and still fail to follow the wishes of the voters by not asking Ms. Hussey to choose a job (either holding her position as a selectman and resigning as secretary or keeping her secretary's position and resigning as selectman).

Feb 22, 2013 12:00 amSome comforting meatloaf
As winter makes its steady march into spring, snow, wind and cold continue. That means comfort food is still tops on the evening menu, and one of those meals is meatloaf.
Everyone, I suppose, has a favorite meatloaf recipe. Mine is a little of my mother’s, and probably by now, more of mine. It’s come about through years of experimentation, as well as what I happen to have on hand when I get the urge to make some.
Thanks to River Valley businesses

A few weekends ago, I attended two benefits held in Rumford for local folks who have had surgery and still are in need of medical attention.
I was amazed at how many businesses had donated products to the events to raise money for the recipients. In tough times like we are in now, it showed how lucky we are to live in such an area where the locals take care of one another.
Many of the businesses had donated to both fundraisers. How heartwarming it is to see how the local folks are willing to give of themselves to help someone else.

Upon returning from the Mexico Christmas parade, we noticed a car parked in a spot that is very unusual considering we live on a dead end dirt road.
Knowing that it is hunting season and any hunter should have been out in the woods by that time of night, I called ORCC to report my concern. A deputy called me back and informed me there was nothing they could do until someone is reported missing, but did mention the first name of the owner which is a neighbor on a different road.
Sincere and heartfelt thanks

The Family of Bob Gallant thanks all who contributed to the beautiful celebration of his life.
Thanks to the Sheriff’s Dept. and for the special eulogy given by Sheriff Wayne Gallant; the Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield police departments, and the State Police for being present at the funeral and leading the procession through Mexico; and the Junior Police who stood guard during the wake.

On January 29, I testified before both the Appropriations and Health and Human Services Committees at the State House.
I testified as a volunteer member of the AARP Capitol City Task Force and a senior on a fixed income and urged the committees to reject cuts to the Low Cost Drugs for the Elderly and Disabled Program (DEL).

The Basket Lady
Feb 15, 2013 12:00 amBasket Lady’s fun fact or folklore, you choose. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the New Moon will arrive on the tenth and for lunar gardeners; the best time to start seeds for annuals and leafy vegetables is between the new and first quarter Moons. But, on the twelfth, if the sun smiles on St. Eulalie’s day, it is good for apples and cider, they say.
And, if you really want to give your sweet heart something long lasting on Valentine’s Day, forget the red roses and do both of you a favor by giving your special one a lavender plant instead.
