Let's get ready to tumble!

RUMFORD -- The Greater Rumford Community Center hosted the YMCA State Gymnastics Meet last weekend at Mountain Valley High School.

The meet consisted of some 280 gymnasts from greater Rumford, Auburn, Bath, Bangor, Central Lincoln County, Down East, Old Town, Oxford Hills and Waterville.

Following the singing of the national anthem, public address announcer Craig Zurhorst, mimicking all-star wrestling, said, "Let's get ready to tumble!"

The GRCC team has three seniors, all from MVHS. Meagan Bourgeois, participated as a Level 9 (only one Level 10 in the state, which is the top level). She was one of five participates in this level in the state.

Also, Allison Hutchins, participating as a Prep Op. Jaclyn Torres could not participate due to ongoing injuries.

The presentation of the Woody Appleton Award for sportsmanship was presented to the team from Central Lincoln County.

LouAnne Thibodeau, longtime head coach of the GRCC team, thanked the businesses and area parents who helped sponsor the meet and organizing the event. The GRCC last hosted the YMCA State Gymnastics Meet in 2007.
