Peru man shines in pro wrestling debut
MEXICO -- In an electric atmosphere in the sweltering gym at the Mexico Rec Center on Aug. 8, it was pretty obvious which wrestler most of the crowd was there to view.
It was a rare Monday night event of the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) On Fire, with the highlight of the two-hour event being at the mid-way point when Peru's Jason Dolloff and champion Julian Starr stepped into the ring for a tag team match with Brian Fury and a mystery guest who turned out to be a big tall dude called The Pharoah.
In the audience were many people either named Dolloff and friends of Jason, cheering wildly with cameras, phones and other mechanical devices recording this event, which was also being taped for the NWA On Fire wrestling program, shown on WPME TV-35.
Jason, who competed in high school as a wrestler and now competes in mixed martial arts, is not only well suited for this sports, but with his body modified type with hours of tattoos and face piercings, looks like an NWA wrestler.
From the time the wrestlers were presented for the match, the noise of the crowd drowned out the announcer's voice.
Once underway, the "bad" guys got the early advantage, with several three counts for a pin making to two for Fury and the Pharoah. But someone Jason and Julian turned it around, much to the delight of the now-crazed fans. Finally, after about 15 to 20 minutes of showmanship and wrestling, the "good" guys, as they usually do, came out on top.
Jason celebrated to the four corners of the ring, waving a skull and cross bones flag. And as he headed out of the gym, the crowd cheered and patted him on the back, while other continued photographing the occasion.
