RUMFORD -- Sawyer Smith, a member of the Dirigo High School Nordic team, is organizing the second annual School Ski Team/Chisholm Ski Club Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Black Mountain of Maine.

All local middle school, high school and college ski team members are invited to volunteer at the event. Sawyer is also inviting friends and family members of the ski teams, Chisholm Ski Club members and friends of Black Mountain to help work on multiple projects at the ski area, including trail work, fence word, sign work and various indoor projects.

Chummy Broomhall and others have done some cutting and earth moving on some of the Nordic trails and the club needs help picking up brush, limbs, stumps and rocks from the trails. Please bring gloves, limb cutters, brush cutters, hand saws, bush/weed whackers, chainsaws, drills, repair tools and wear orange clothing since hunting season will have started.

Paul Jones and Carlie Casey of CSC will serve breakfast to the volunteers from 7-9 a.m., as well as providing snacks, refreshments and lunch to them.

Like last year, Sawyer is encouraging all skiers to volunteers to help get the Black Mountain Nordic trails ready for winter and keep the Nordic tradition alive in the River Valley area. For more information, Sawyer can be contacted at 562-4464 or at sasmith@rsu10.org.
