Locals named to all-star squads
RIVER VALLEY -- On every team, there is always several student-athletes who create additional attention by standing out in one or more aspect. Mountain Valley and Dirigo each competed throughout the fall and each coach had an opportunity to nominate players for respective Mountain Valley Conference all-star teams.
The votes were tallied and seven Falcon and Cougar teams have been recognized on the first and second teams, or honorable mention. Topping the list is junior Natalie Bolduc, who earned first-team in both girls' soccer and in cross country. The dual sport standout had a busy fall by scoring 28 goals and also finishing fifth in the cross-country state meet. Jessica Conant, second team, and the Cougars fifth-place finish in the state meet was their best ever.
The Mountain Valley boys' soccer team just missed the playoffs. However, senior Kyle Gauvin was chosen first-team goalkeeper.
“Kyle deserves his honor,” said MV coach Jarrod Dumas, regarding the four-year starter. “He probably didn't have the top statistics, but I think that the MVC coaches recognized that he did more to keep his team in games than any other keeper in the league. We owe all of our victories to Kyle and his fantastic, fearless play between the posts.”
Andrew Child and Andrew Phelps each made second-team defense and offense, respectively. Austin Glover and Simon Jensen received honorable mentions. “I'm very proud of both Andrews,” said Dumas. “Their selection is both a testament to their skills and the hard work of their teammates. It is a wonderful tribute to how hard every player in a Mountain Valley uniform worked this year.”
The Dirigo boys' soccer team have Chad Snowman (12 goals, six assists) and Josh Turbide (eight assists) each on the first team, while TJ Frost and Cody St. Germain made the second team. Honorable metions went to Garret Carver and Caleb Turner (eight shutouts, nine goals allowed). Bolduc was joined on first team by Cougar soccer players Natasha Deroche and Kayla Gaudin; second team to Alyssa Wade, Mariah Larson; with honorable mention to Addy Fuller and Samantha Morse. Bolduc, Deroche and Larson were on West Regional.
In field hockey, Ayla Allen of MV was on the first team; the late Dani Ranger and Alyssa Charity of Dirigo were named to second team. Honorable mention to Emily Gallant and Chelsea Bordeau of MV and Sam Blanchette and Betsy Noyes of Dirigo.
