Archie's notches first win
MEXICO -- Archie's of Mexico got into the win column with a convincing 91-51 win over the winless Thurdercats in the finale of the day in Mountain Valley Rec League play.
Archies (1-2) has added a few new faces and have developed a competitive group. Lead scorers were Mike Holmquist with 28 points and five three pointers, Issac Roberts with 26, venerable Rich Allen and newcomer Joe Douglas with 13 each. The Thundercats were led by Brandon Milligan with three threes and Kenny Armstrong also with nine.
In game one, Hotel Rumford (3-0) overcame a 15-point first half deficit to methodically overtake a shocked LBI squad (2-1). LBI controlled most of the game with speed and athleticism, but the experience and court presence of Hotel Rumford slowly changed the momentum of the game in the second half. Hotel's top scorers were guards Chris Willer with 20 points, Craig Milledge with 17 points and Kevin Gallant with 16. LBI had Owen Jones five threes and 17 points, Chris Baxter with 15 points, Eric Canwell and JT Taylor with 10 points to lead their team.
In the middle game, Bethel Bobcats (3-0) showed their strength and dominated Black Bear Industries (0-3) by 85-60. In this physical game, Bethel's big men made the difference on the boards and in the paint. They were led by center Matt Newell with 18 points, big man Ryan Kimball with 17 points, Sean Caddigan with 13 points and Wade Osgood and Matt Zetts with 10 each. BBI's Kevin Prevost and Myles Whitlock had 17 each, while Ryan Conrad chipped in with 11 points.
This Sunday has Archies facing Black Bear Industries at 10 a.m. In game two at 11:30, LBI and The Thundercats are paired. The big game of the day at 1 p.m. has the undefeated Hotel Rumford and Bethel Bobcats playing for first place supremacy.
