AYF Falcons 12-game win streak snapped
GRAY -- The AYF Falcons traveled to Gray Sunday afternoon and ran into a strong defensive team in the Gray Patriots, who snapped the Falcons' 12-game winning streak by 7-6 at sun drenched Gray-New Gloucester High School.
Both teams played stellar defense in the opening quarter as Falcon defenders Brock Blouin, Garrett Blodgett, Averie Pingree and Jasper Turner all came up with tackles and defensive pressure.
The Falcons would get on the board in the second quarter when Falcon linebacker Dallas Berry picked off a Patriots pass and returned the ball to the Patriot 33. From there, it took the offense just one snap when quarterback Casey Cormier handed the ball off to Turner, who ran up the middle and into the end zone for a 33-yard TD scamper. The PAT kick failed for a Falcons 6-0 lead heading into intermission.
The Falcons defense held the Gray Patriots on their opening drive to start the 2nd half as Courtney Murray recorded consecutive tackles and Jack Jamison applied pressure to force a turn over on downs.
The Falcons offense would fumble on their first play from scrimmage in the third quarter and the Patriots recovered the loose ball at the Falcon 31.
From there, the Patriots put together a nine-play, 31-yard scoring drive to tie the game. They converted their PAT kick for a 7-6 lead with 1:03 left in the third.
Neither team could punch in another touchdown as the Patriots escaped, 7-6.
The Falcons travel to Farmington next Sunday to face the Giants at Kemp Field.
