AYF Falcons edge Patriots, 30-29
RUMFORD -- The AYF Falcons edged the Patriots from Farmington 30-29 Sunday afternoon at a seasonably warm Chet Bulger Field.
The Falcons hit pay dirt first when their offense engineered a nine-play, 54-yard scoring drive. A Jasper Turner 10-yard run set up a first and goal from the Patriots 10. From there, Kyler Heinzen picked up 2 yards followed up by a 7 yard lug from Dallas Berry as the first quarter expired. Turner then pounded it across the goal line for a 6-0 Falcon lead. PAT kick failed.
The Patriots responded as they scored on a five-yard touchdown pass then converted the PAT kick for a 7-6 lead with 5:39 left before intermission.
The Falcons put together an eight-play, 45-yard scoring drive capped off by a Turner 12-yard touchdown jaunt as the Falcons took a 12-7 lead heading into intermission.
The Falcons started the thirrd quarter on defense and on third down and 5, Brock Blouin recovered a fumble, giving the Falcons good field position at the Patriots 46. It took just two snaps of the ball when Turner ripped off a 46-yard touchdown run for a Falcons 18-7 lead with 5:26 left in the third quarter.
The Patriots scored a touchdown on fourth and goal from the one yard line with 22 seconds left in the third to make the score 18-13 heading into the final frame.
Turner added a three-yard touchdown run and Heinzen plunged into the end zone from 2 yards out as the Falcons hung on for a 30-29 victory.
The Falcons travel to Livermore Falls Sunday to play the AYS Raiders at Griffin Field.
