LIVERMORE FALLS -- The AYF Falcons scored on their first three possessions of the game while racking up 323 yards from scrimmage en route to a convincing 24-6 victory over the AYS Raiders Sunday at Griffin Field.
After receiving the opening kickoff, the Falcons offense orchestrated a 6-play, 52-yard scoring drive. Jasper Turner broke loose for 27 yards to the Raiders 25 on the first play from scrimmage. Dallas Berry had a five-yard run, setting up an 18-yard rush by Turner. From there, Turner followed fullback Kyler Heinzen into the end zone in a one-yard plunge, behind a good line surge from Josh Hodsdon, Jacob True, Brock Blouin, Averie Pingree, Jack Jamison and Chase Nelson for a 6-0 lead.
On the Raiders' first play, Falcons defensive end Berry came up with a big hit in the Raiders backfield causing a fumble. Berry then recovered the ball at the Raiders 30.
It took the Falcons offense three plays to cross the goal line. Casey Cormier ran 13 yards followed by a Turner 16 yard scamper. Heinzen plowed his way into the end zone from the one for a 12-0 lead.
The Falcons strung together an eight play, 43-yard TD drive in the second quarter, capped off by a Turner 11-yard TD run.
The Raiders got on the board before intermission as the Falcons went into half time with an 18-6 lead.
The hard hitting Falcons shut out the Raiders in the second half. The Falcons defense applied steady pressure at the line of scrimmage from line men Blouin, Caleb Blodgett, Preston Martin and Courtney Murray. Linebackers Elijah Weston, Jamison and Heinzen filled the gaps with fundamental tackling. Defensive ends Berry and Turner fought off blockers and contained the Raiders back field. The Falcons exhibited textbook team defense throughout the 2nd half of the Contest.
The Falcons added another score in the fourth quarter when Cormier pitched the pigskin to Turner, who ran right then passed it back to Cormier around the left end for a 28-yard TD behind some good blocking from Jeremiah Johnson, Matt Averill and John Johnson.
